motor went bang!!!!

99 200 efi not sure of the hours had the boat a little over a year. No warning it was running good. Took my brother out this morning made about a 10 min run on norfork and felt the power fall off then the rattlin started. shut it down and towed it in. Hope it can be fixed without too much $$$ only on hole appears to be bad.

Sure sorry to hear that. Isnt it amazing how some engines will last forever it seems and then others wont? Strange. Hope it doesnt cost you too much.

The plastic gear on the oil pump was the weak link on the EFIs. Hard to tell color from the pics. If the rod turned blue at crank or wrist pin you had no oil Is the crank end loose if you push-pull on the rod?

crank end is very loose. piston end looks ok other than were it beat the crap outta the piston. Had no alarm and motor did start up after but i imediately shut it off , could tell something wasnt right. Kinda wonder if the wrist pin came out of the piston on one end maybe a keeper came out?? motor has been using oil at a consistent rate. The combustion surface on the head of that cylinder has a different coloration than the others do but not sure if that means anything. It wasnt missing and was an imediate failure.

If the crank end is loose I would say the rod bearings are cooked and the crank is probably trashed.If what is left of the needle bearings look like they are welded to the bearing cage and then ground flat…No oilWhen they go they go fast. Piston may have seized and blew the wrist pin. The skirt will have scour marks and pot holes. Sometimes metal will transfer from the piston to the cylinder wall.Odd thing before the sieze and blow they run real good. No oil to burn. Good combustion.I hope I am wrong about the crank being burned up.I know the feeling brother. It hurts.

only one hole is damaged the other 5 look really good. motor still spins nice and easy. I could actually push the piston in and out with my hand when i pulled the head off so i dont think the piston siezed. The top 3/4 of the bore is super smooth the bottom 1/4 has some bruises where the rod bumped it but nothing severe. Im no expert on the 2 strokes, or outboard for that matter but from what i can tell maybe a sleeve, rod and pistons…. possibly the crank too depending on how much damaged it recieved. If i can find a swingin deal on a replacement powerhead i will probably look at that option.

I have not priced a crank lately but I would expect it to be well over a grand.I did a repair on a two cylinder and the crank was $480 bucks new.Good thing you shut it down when you did. The rod would of gone out the side of the block.If you go the repair route sounds to me like you need (for budget purposes):CrankshaftConnecting rodbearings and sealsGasket setI recommend six new 0.030 or 0.040 over Wisco pistonsPistons come with rings and wrist pins and are about 100 bucks each.Boyesen reedsRebuild the oil mixer, or disconnect and manual mix, or get electronic aftermarket oil mixer which is more reliable.
