I currently have a Motorguide 75lb Pro Series on my Basscat Sabre FTD…its a workhorse. Ive not had any problems with it aside from a stripped gear that was my fault and an easy fix. My only complaint about it is that its kind of noisy. I normally run it on 3 and the bracket clicks and makes noise when you engage the motor. The current Motorguide rebates have caught my eye so Im kicking around the idea of upgrading. Im looking at either the X3 Digital or the X5. Id get the 45″ shaft in either and the X3 is 70lb thrust and the X5 is 80. Obviously the X5 is the higher end motor…but how is the X3 Digital? Since my current motor is fine, its a little easier to justify a more modest upgrade, vs. the cost of the X5. Does the X3 “spool up” the motor when you engage it? Thats the one thing I like about the Minn Kotas, and Im guessing that it would help with the noise issue with the Motorguide.
