Mounting front depth finder?

My new p2 came with an x135 up front mounted on a bracket by the foot pedal. I have an x102 on an extended ram mount I wanted to put there. If I remove the old bracket Im guessing the holes will be exposed and Ill be drilling four new holes? Is this right? If there are holes there can the fiberglass be fixed before I mount the new one? Any suggestions? Thanks! Ben

X135 and X102 are likely to have the same bracket size. If they arent the same size then mount the bracket over the existing holes. It wont hurt a thing. If it makes you feel better, feel the holes with resin/marinetex or at a lesser fix…..silicone.

Thanks Phil. The bracket sits directly on the fiberglass and it is the U shaped bracket that the units come with. The ram mount has a circular base about the same size as a cookie. The circle wouldnt cover the other holes. I just hate to leave the holes in the glass and make new ones.

Yeah the brackets are the same. However the circular base on the ram mount that screws into the surface is much smaller than the standard bracket they come with. The reason Id like to use the ram mount is because of the extension that puts the unit higher in the air, thus, easier to see. I may just mount it on the carpeted area. I ordered an extra rod bungee strap for the driver side. Is it okay to screw it into the floor? Are there any tricks or is it pretty straight forward? Thanks! Ben

Why not put a piece of adhesive tread plate in the well pan and place the RAM on top of it. That would be preferred over putting it on the carpeted deck, which could be in the way. BCB

I had the same issue for my cougar. What I did was make an oak wood square base about 3 x 7 x 3/4 inches ogeed th top edges, finised witha polyurethane clear coat, 3 coats, screwed to the boat using the old holes and then screwed the RAM to the oak with 3/4″ stainless panhead sheet metal screws. Looks really custom and no new holes Irv

BASSCAT: Why dont you like mounting on the deck? I am thinking about getting a bigger unit( screen) and mounting on the deck vs basin to get the extra height. RWP

We just dont prefer that for reasons of usage and floor integrity. That deck was made to support you walking on it, not screws going into it. Access to that area for support can be gained through the rod box on some models for bolting through.

I got an adhesive pad to put over that area. Will it be ok to screw the ram mount into that area the same way the mount was? Thanks! Ben
