2020 Caracal 225 Merc
Well, we finally finished this “little” project today after a number of hours over two days. Seems someone was a little enthusiastic putting one of the screws into the aluminum black plate covering the steering wheel nut. Way to snug and started to strip Allen head screw which I managed to finish off. We had to drill/grind out the stainless steel screw head which took 2-3 hours of patient work. When we finally got that done, had to create a wheel puller (thank God my buddy owns a large fabrication plant and has the tools/know how to make one) to get wheel off. From there it was pretty easy. However, I cannot find another replacement Allen head screw to match the other five. Bass Cat, you got an extra one around you can send me? I’ve been to several places and finding one with the right finish, head, thread has proven real challenging.
If anyone is removing the steering wheel, be very very careful removing the Allen head screws holding the cover. They are a bugger to drill out if you strip the head!
