First we had a great time at the Classic, and I would advise anyone who has the opportunity to attend, to not miss it. So heres a few of my observations:1) These guys are rodeo cowboys on water. Many of them handle everything for themselves, and the time on the water may be the easiest part of their days. From finding an affordable safe place to stay, to packing, to all the road time, its just a grueling life to say the least. They definitely earn their money, so support their sponsors.2) Love him or hate him, I watched a tired, frustrated, and obviously very hungry Mike Iaconelli at the end of the 1st day, load his boat at Red River Marina. Once off the ramp (and there was no media present), people started flocking to him. Not once did he show that frustration, not once did he fail to make eye contact, and not once did refuse to talk to, or take a picture with a fan. He sat there there and was very gracious with every person that approached him. Some others could learn a lesson from this. He may throw rods, but this guy is a pro. He “gets it”.3) BCBs presence at the classic cant be measured by the Expo booth alone. It seemed that everywhere we went in Shreveport, there was a BCB jacket, truck decal, or cap. The “little boat company that could” has very loyal and proud owners. It almost became a joke when every boat we looked at was compared to an Eyra by my wife. And yes, that is a good thing for me.4) Spent 30 minutes outside taking a break from the crowds at the Expo, and bumped into Jason Brewer from BCB. Nice young man, and although many of you will never meet him, hes another personable and excellent rep for BCB.5) If any of you ever make the Elites, follow I Monroe around. You can learn as much from his poor attitude, as you can from Iaconellis good one. He managed to throw every other boat and motor company under the bus, while making a poor attempt at promoting his own. His second day weigh in speech was classless at best.6) Finally, my wife and I have been fortunate enough to attend several championship type events, including Tiger Woods US Open victory at Torrey Pines in 2008. Never have we had as much fun, and it was primarily due to the crowds at the Classic. No random drunk guys bumping into you, people said please and thank you, doors were held open for women, and people wore their colors proudly. Fisherman, and fisherwomen, are just good people.Last edited by FireIsHot on February 27th, 2012, 5:36 pm, edited 1 time in total.

I had on my BCBs shirt and saw 3 other guys in there with theirs on as well. It made me smile because it wasnt all that long ago that it was rare to see others with my favorite boat represented so well. I had to work all weekend so I missed out on going to the weigh-ins and EXPO but I was checking the live blogs and BassTrak all day on my phone. Ill have to say that Im happy for Chris Lane. I never really followed him but after seeing him here at Toledo Bend last year I started kind of pulling for him. I saw (on-line) Ishs interview too. He was not happy with what took place when locking through and cant blame him. Throwing another angler under the bus wasnt a good idea. However, the lock being held for someone else may have prevented him from fishing day 3. I like Ish (and he is good friends with Ike and John Crews too, they share houses together when on the road). John was telling the class how Ish won Oneida on a Missile Bait prototype last year but couldnt say anything because they werent ready for production. It was a funny story John telling how the cell phone conversation went.Ish did promote the SHO big time but what I found amusing was that he was bragging about how Omori was doing 75 with that motor on his boat. Im thinking to myself, must be he didnt run across Glasgow and his Erya cause he is probably topping 80….. I saw Alan weigh in Saturday too and that Eyra was sharp. You could enjoy it because it wasnt wrapped. Think he had a SHO too but not sure. Just my observations of the interviews and weigh-ins. I think it was Alton Jones but may have been one of the other top 6 guys who really gave kudos to Ikes Smash Tube. He gushed over those baits. A lot of the guys took a lot of time to promote their sponsors. Imagine we will see a lot of outtakes in commercials this coming year…… Watching on-line or live you get to see everything before editing. Pretty interesting to watch.
I wont comment on Ish anymore, than to say he may be a great guy and had a bad day. But I had a very rich salesman tell me one time, that you sell your product by selling YOUR product. It was such a simple statement, but it had a lasting effect on me.One thing I forgot to add was the Margay. If you get a chance, even if its not in your wheelhouse, check one out. I truly believe BCB altered the space time continuum somehow. Ive never seen a boat of that size with so much room. The front deck is massive, and I still cant figure out how they did it in a 17 boat.
Ish was the only angler to get a late Penalty. If this is so he gambled on running with the next flight, but it just didnt work out. There was a constant standing ovation for Wirthe the last day. It seriously lasted 10 minutes Congrats to him on a great career, he was shown a lot of love at this classic and I am sure he will b missed.
Anyone have a link to the day 2 weighin? I looked but cannot find it? I was at Falcon Saturday…
Thanks, but was looking for the video.
We know that you just wanted to rub it in that you were at falcon, I know I would b
