2007 Puma 225 Pro XS, dual 8 foot talons. top speed 61. Not sure what my prop to pad is. running a 25 tempest. WOT water pressure is 24 PSI, im guessing my motor is to low. Im sure I have a set up problem.
Need more info to help. What is your WOT RPM @61 MPH? How many batteries and what model trolling motor, how much fuel and live well empty or full? All will effect performance. My previous BCB was a 2006 Puma 225 Pro XS with 52″ MK Fortrex, 4 lead acid batteries no poles or talons. Full fuel tanks 53 galls. And full live wells and partner 200lbs. Ran a solid 68 to 69. Running solo would run 71 to 73 MPH GPS.
ME, MY SON, AND HIS PARTNER, 5800 RPM, MOTOR GUIDE 109, 4 LEAD BATTERIES, 30 GALLONS FUEL, EMPTY LIVE WELLS, TOURNEY LOAD. HAVE SEEN 65 BY MY SELF WITH A VERY LIGHT LOAD
Youre carrying a big load with three people and all the rest of the stuff. I imagine you can get more than that, with that load, but not much more most likely. I had a 2006 CougarFTD/225 Opti. By myself with maybe half a fuel load (26 gallons), loaded with tackle, empty livewells and 3 batteries, I could push it to 72. Youre carrying a lot more weight than that. Youve just got it loaded down.
I have pretty close to the same set up. 2006 puma with 225 pro xs, dual poles, fortrex 112, 3 batteries, loads of tackle. With 30 gals of gas and 2, 200lb guys, I get around 67 and change. I have a 25p fury and I think my slidemaster JP is a little high because I get a ton of steering torque at full speed. You should be getting a little better. Is your prop in good shape?
Two things, drop the engine height 1/2″ and see if you gain speed. Then if that doesnt work, have your technician check the ports on the power head with a scope. BCB
You asked advice and the staff provided their opinion. We would follow the guidelines. These engines should have water pressure higher than the boat will run the engine.

Id get rid of that Tempest prop and get a Fury or Trophy. That Tempest is a pile on that rig! As BCB suggested, lower the engine cause it sounds like you have a large amount of prop slip. Water pressure doesnt mean squat on a BCB when it comes to set up. Good luck getting better performance!
I will try to lower motor, thanks all who replied. I will update after this weekend. Phil, you dont have a spare fury laying around, Im right down the road in mont belvieu. Boat is up at Rayburn.
