I remember Phil Addison giving a general overview of where to run on Rayburn but I cant seem to find the topic it was under. Ive been over twice scouting around and I have done some running but Ive been very nervous about it. I was running behind somebody….hoping they knew where they were going….and look out in the middle of nowhere and there are 2 or 3 stumps sticking up. That makes me pucker up. Can somebody else that is familiar with running the lake give those of us that arent another lesson, please???Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
Up the Ayishe Bayou be cautious, then watch the Attoyac or anything above the 147 bridge area if you dont now the res. Below the 147 the Black and Amber Forest off the South West bank above Caney to Mudd Creek, your either inside the forest or outside them. In Harvey Creek be aware of some areas in the back and after that common sense should get your by. Most everything at Rayburn is just using your noggin.
You can get boatlanes.com for Rayburn, not sure how good it is but the lake Fork is awesome.
I have the boatlanes, it has a trail/waypoints up the Angelina arm and up the major creeks and a couple of side trails, dont know how good it is, but there are vast areas of the lake that it does not cover. It is not as comprehensive as the Fork waypoints. Much better than nothing though and worth the $20.I have not personally checked it out, yet.
there are no marked boat lanes on Sam Rayburn. If you are below the bridge, you can use the “if i you cant see it, it aint there” kinda logic. You get above the bridge, that is a different story. There are some humps out in the middle that come up to just a few feet. there is also alot of timeber under the water. if your running from the south end north, stay on the east side of the lake and you should be fine. BassCat, will there be any service trailors at the OI incase? Maybe a Merc trailor, or power pole trailor? Please just use some commen sense when running rayburn.
That was my deal yesterday. When I was first looking at my boat and wanted to take it for a test ride, Toledo was too low and dangerous so we went to Rayburn. Rayburn was also low but not as bad and dangerous. We launched at Jackson Hill and there were some lane markers in place that ran in front of the deer stand area. I guess they were just there due to the low conditions because they sure arent there now. I eased my way around for the most part. I saw lots of people running in those areas but I just didnt want to risk my lower unit or my hull. Then below the 147 bridge, I ran behind some other guys. I looked at my depth finder at one point and saw 7 feet. It concerned me that it might come up fast and surprise me with a hump or something. It seemed like a lot of them were just trimming up high and hoping because there were a lot of unnecessary rooster tails flying around. There should be Mercury and some Yamaha Service at the Owners Invitational. Jordan Marine and Bowden Marine will both be there with bells on also.

Most everything at Rayburn is just using your noggin.and when the lake is low, just use your gps chip to keep from running aground. Those spots that are 2 or 3 feet deep……..trim up and let it eat. Oh and cross your fingers! No one should have any problems with running a ground as the lake is only 2 or 3 feet low.
Never know when there will be a stray engine block layin around!! Been there done that!
So my gps unit has the navionics bundle on it. Im sure its not as detailed as a newer chip but when i looked the other night it looked half way decent as far as detail. If i have my depth shaded at say 12 feet and run hard only in the shaded depth in 12 feet or deeper you think i will be good?
