I recently just purchased a navionics hot maps chip for my lowrance 522c. When i plug it in the unit will turn on freeze up then shut off. Does anyone know what the problem might be. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

No its not a platinum and Im not to sure how old it is I bought it of Craigslist. When I ordered it online tackle warehouse it said it was compatible.

Contact Lowrance service to see what cards are compatible. The waits usually 20 minutes on the 800 number.

I checked the navionics website and it is comparable. Might be a software issue. Have you updated your Lowrance software?

Check your current software version. Power on the unit, then I believe its Menu – Menu – System Information. Its on pg. 183 of the 520 manual. The latest version for the 520 and the 522 is version 2.5.0. Its only 8.6 MB so it should fit on your existing SD card. I updated my 520 recently from an older version (1.6.0???) and the difference in features and image quality is unbelievable. I wont waste my time upgrading my in-dash 520. With a Hotmaps Gold (South) chip upgrade its got all the features Ill ever need for an in-dash unit. Im spending my coin on an HDS 8 with Ram Mount (D-111U-C) for the front.Last edited by Guest on October 23rd, 2012, 9:56 pm, edited 1 time in total.
