I came across a 2011 Eyra for sale black/white/silver with dual poles and 250 E tec. Sellers name is Beau. Does anyone here know anything about this rig. Price is good and Id consider it even though I have no personal experience with the E tec. Any info good or bad would be appreciated. Thanks BassCatBates

I know nothing about that rig but my 2cents is if it had an Evinrude anything it would have to be a smoking deal…like half of what it should cost…because thats about what its going to cost you out of pocket to replace it with a Merc or Yamaha.

Ok…. that brings me to my next question….. Tell me about the E Tec….. good and bad…… what should I be concerned about with an E Tec?

Sorry but Im not familiar with that boat. I dont know much about etechs either except everyone I know who has had one replaced it after a while with a Mercury or Yamaha. I think the etechs are great from 150 down but their bigger motors seem to be problematic. Biggest key like all large format engines is to make sure you have access to repair source with experience in such motors as in many areas of US there are far less brp repair sources. You get emm checked, you get compression checked. May have some warranty left as well? May not. I have owned two but had a sort of unreal repair source as vast majority of certified etec rebuilds in US were done here and that was my repair source so experience and access was unparalleled for me. Top end Performance from that block was exceptional.C.O.D. Jr. III

I had a 2009 Etec 200HO on my PIV, 2010 broke down due to EMM failure, 2011 broke down due to injector, 2012 blew powerhead /#6 piston. Repowered at great expense to Yamaha SHO, regained my happiness. Evinrude was great about fixing the motor under warranty, but it always took weeks. In the northwest you cant hardly sell a bassboat with an Etec on it due to the failure issues. They run great when they run, but I wont own another one.

If its the one on LA sportsman, Its a fine machine. With the poles and electronics he has on it, it would be a steal even if it was a PII! I believe the hours were around 200. Im not familiar with the E-tec. Its priced about 10k below retail.

Not a big fan of the e Tec but always make sure you have a good wrench around for whatever brand motor you purchase because they will all mess up at some point.

Thats my thing, I know any and all engines will have problems at some point, it just seems like Ive heard more horror stories on E tecs than Yamaha and Merc. The price may be too good to pass up if I decide to give the E tec a try.
