My 08 puma, not even a year old, has been in the garage since Dec. I have a charger hooked up to it and on a timer that comes on once every two weeks for a few hours to top off batteries and I check it from time to time. Everything has been fine but today I was out in the compartments and I noticed the compartment lights did not come on. I put the key in and turned the master on and everything is dead. So I turned on the charger and all batteries went green. I turned the master back on and the lights came on but the gages and everything else acted like they were not getting enough juice. I waited a few and turned the master and key back on and I have nothing but the batteries do show charged. Any advise?
Jim, Youve probably already done this, but did you check the water level in the batteries? Also do you have a tester to see if the batteries really do have a charge in them? Im no expert at all on electrical problems, so hopefully BCB will come along and have a better answer.
Just checked the charger and the number one battery, cranking, is flashing red and green. My trolling motor works so am I to assume my 6 month old interstate battery is bad?
Puma Jim, take and change the leads from the starting batt. with one from the trolling batts. If the blinking light changes to the other batt. it is probably the charger. You can charge the cranking batt. with a reg. charger for awhile and then hook back up to onboard and see if it starts to charge again. If this does not work I would have the batt. checked by someone who can put a load on it to make sure it is fine. Good luck pant 2 Bob
If charger flashing, it might not be recognizing that battery, I had one do the same and had to fully charge with another charger, if it doesnt recognize the battery it will not charge that one due to low voltage. just a thought, SAMBAYOU BANDIT
To my 08 Yamaha 250 VZ I added a cranking battery isolator switch to disconnect the power to the engine when not in use without having to unhook the battery. The engine computer will pull milliamps the entire time when not in use.Last edited by tschooler1956 on January 16th, 2010, 9:21 pm, edited 1 time in total.
