I’m buying a new 20’er in late November/ early December. Being from Michigan, I have only one dealer 2 hours away and I intend on buying the best deal I can get. Travel distance doesn’t matter. Just the best, easiest, pain free purchase experience. Tell me where to take my money and all of the good, bad and ugly!
I am sure the dealer there is very good, as all of BCB dealers are top notch. My dealer is Sherm’s Marine in Wabash, Indiana. He is located in the
northern part of the state about an hour or so SW of Fort Wayne. I know Sherm has sold many boats to folks from Michigan, as well as all around
the US. He’s always in the top 5 or higher BCB dealerships each year. Great guy, good prices, great service.
Heard good things about Sherm from guys up by me. But I want all the options I can get spending this kind of coin.
Sherms was once a dealership that sold a long ways away, today he sells closer to him and has developed a market. In Michigan you also have Camp & Cruise and we first established C&C in the early 1980’s. They left bass boats for a couple years and returned to selling them at a lesser level. Service would be one thing to make our decision and the distance from service would be one factor to make our decision.
If drive time for purchase is truly no issue, then long distance service is still a factor. Those who drive we find drive for several items they purchase. Some don’t have the luxury of time and buy as close as they can.
Distance is not a issue. Nor is service! It’s a BassCat, the best engineered and user friendly for maintenance boat on the market. I have plenty of Merc service marinas by me

If motor service is not an issue, speak to Sherm. You mention you want the best, easiest, pain free process. I am up in Canada, and have come across the border and made the five hundred mile trip and bought two boats from Sherm the past few years, the most recent one only five months ago. I also have two BCB dealers both within two hours of my house. Like you, motor service is not an issue for me as I have likely the best Merc service centre in southern Ontario half an hour from me and they take great care of me.
Dotties Marine in Tenn. Best price, easy in, easy out I highly recommend if that is what you want.
I’d highly recommend Hide A Way Harbor Marine in Tuscaloosa Alabama. Wonderful friendly staff, excellent customer service and I know of several recent BassCat boat sales that went to people 10-12 hrs away…and the boats were delivered. I’d at least give them a call !!!! 205 507-4993
I am from Louisiana and driven 14+ hours (one way) to purchase from Sherm! My last 2 BasCats have been purchased with Sherm. He is a busy dealer, but makes a great deal and makes sure everything is in working order before you leave. Sherm is truly great to deal with.
Sherm is sure getting some good pr! I’m gonna have to seriously consider him now.

I’m very surprised there is that much of a good deal to be made for one to drive 800+ miles to buy a boat. Not trying to be negative on your decision whatsoever; I’m sure you’ve made a great decision twice. I simply did not picture the pricing to be that much different from the dealers within your area (who probably have the advantage of being closer to BCB).

Hideaway Harbor in Tuscaloosa Alabama. I am 4 hours from there and have had the best experience with them. I still take the time to drive to them
for service.
I went through camp and cruise and worked with Jesse he did a great job!
Serious consideration should be given to utilizing your closest dealer if at all possible. Establishing that relationship can be worth its weight in gold – especially when there are issues. And there will be issues – regardless of the boat, the model or the manufacturer. BCB is a premiere manufacturer no question. However, even the best boat company’s occasionally have items that need warranty coverage.
Also, margins in these products are extremely competitive to say the least and having someone close enough by to get you back on the water in a pinch could prove invaluable. All of this assumes the dealer is above board, reputable and has the service department needed to support its clientele – which BCB works very hard to ensure before setting a dealer up.
If the dollar is truly your only concern then I would submit to you to consider at minimum to give your closest dealer the opportunity to earn your business. As you expect them to be transparent with you, be the same with them, and tell them that you are price shopper with little focus on client loyalty or establishing a service relationship for the long-term and don’t mind drive 6, 8, 10 or more hours to save a few hundred bucks. If you allow them this it can go only two ways:
They work with you in an effort to earn your business and figure out ways to save you money (i.e. price matching, options or accessories, services, etc.)
– OR –
They decide you are not the client they want within their dealership’s clientele and suggest that you are better off with another dealer.
Either way – you are better off and, you can at least know that you gave them the opportunity.
