NEED HELP!! Outboard Electronic Interference on LCX 28 HD graph

Need some help from the Family. Ive got an LCX 28 HD in the console of my FTD. Noticed today that I have major amounts of electrical/electronic interference when Im running the outboard. Turn off the outboard, and it stops. I have also noticed that I do not have a strong transducer signal. The bottom echo is very week, does not fill in the bottom of the screen like is normal on a Lowrance unit. The bottom echo appears only as a thin colored line, with white above it, and below it. The unit does not show fish echos at all, even in an area where the bow unit shows lots of fish and bait. Ive run Lowrance for a LOOONG time, and have never had any electronic inteference of any kind. Need some help on this one. I”m stumped here. Many thanks, Mike Whitten

If it were close by, Id hook up an oscilloscope to the battery to see if the voltage regulator is allowing a lot of “noise” into the 12 volt power system. It is not supposed to, but when diodes go out, you can get some funny looking DC voltage variations and electronics dont like it one bit. Your motor really doesnt like it either. I have also seen grounding problems cause something similar, if you have a poor ground for the LCD…2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

are you running a 36 volt trolling motor to include the starting battery??? That setup can cause interference…

Mike, I am running 3 battery 36v–but this problem is with the console graph while the big engine is running. Has nothing to do, that I can figure out, with the trolling motor setup. No problems with the big engine turned off. Mike Whitten

A while back, I had a similar problem; lots of interference and a very thin bottom reading. I also noticed the unit would not show trees and brush I knew to be there. A bad (weak) transducer can cause the the unit to max out the sensivity trying to get a usable display making interference more likely. In my case it turned out to be a defective transducer. I replaced it and the problems, including the interference, went away. C.

I realize this has to be a process of eliminating possbile casuses. I did not know that the transducer could cause electrical interference. I will try a new transducer, and see what happens. Thanks much!!! Mike Whitten

Mike, does the debth finder do it in the Simulator Mode. If not, then my bet is the transducer also. Could be routed around something that is causing this to happen. Take care and good luck !! Joey

Mike, is just a way to elimanate it being electrical interference or not. I would think if it does this in the simulator mode then it would electrical because you are not using your transducer. If it does not then like I said, something is either wrong with the transducer or is routed around something that is causing this. Take Care and Good Luck, those issues can be a real pain sometimes !! Joey
