looking for a little help from my Bass Cat family.my buddy and i are planning a trip to Bull Shoals soon, my buddy is a retired vet and his great uncle lives south of Protem, MO off Highway 125 on the lake. his great uncle said we can stay at one of his houses on the lake but we are not familiar with the lake or area but am looking to visit BCB in Mountain Home and fish the lake. if anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated! i can pay a guide or if anyone can help in getting on the water will be awesome!we have gear but need help looking when is the best time of year to go? right now here in Southern California the bass are starting to get in to prespawn but not sure when it will start in AR.Thanks and look forward to any info!David
David , it all depends on just HOW MUCH winter we get . — The best time would be when the water temp gets back to about 55 degrees or so , which is somewhere around mid March most years . — The old Bull can be real finicky at times , but can also be amazing . — You shouldnt need to get a guide , as there are a few of us around these parts you can get ahold of before you come this way . — Feel free to P/M me for the latest and greatest Bull Shoals fishing report when you figure out your dates , and Ill do my best to help you out . — Rick and Ivan are also REAL good sources of info for the Bull . — Take care , and God Bless . — Mark
David,Below is a link for Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock. They would be really convenient for you for all amenities if you are planning to visit Basscat.http://www.bullshoalslakeboatdock.com/They have a full guide service on the lake as well as the white river. They also have houseboat rentals which would be a cool venue if you are wanting to stay on the water. Late March through mid May is a fantastic time to fish the lake. All species will be active as well as the White Bass run in the rivers. The walleye move up the creeks this time of the year also along with 50+ pound stripers. If I was going to plan a trip I would come in mid April as most of the cruel cold fronts are gone by then and all the species are active. As Mark stated below, contact any of us and we will keep you posted on what is going on at the Bull.Matt
Pick a time frame and there is a ton of help here that can assist. BCB
thanks guys for all the replys, suggestions and offers, i am talking to my buddy on a time frame but it looks sometime between late March to mid April. looking at the map it looks like table rock is on the way so we might try and fish there as well, im really looking forward to going to BCB and getting a tour! might need help on some places to eat as well, my buddy said his great uncle is like 30+ mins from any real food but there is alot of deer! LOLim stoked to say the least and fish the lakes we have read so much about and have a good time!
Hi David,I fished Bull Shoals for the first time a few weeks ago, it was chilly but still fun. The lake is majestically beautiful!!! Deep clear and quite a bit larger than the lakes we have in SoCal. I did not want to leave the joint once I got there. I just love the Ozark beauty and the hospitality of the people. Going back to California will be a tough move for me on many fronts.BrianBrianHAWG Hunter2013 BassCat Eyra2013 Mercury 250 Pro XS Gen2 L/U
David, Im semi-retired and spend A LOT of time on Bull, if the uncle has a house south of Protem you may be close to my neck of the woods, Theodosia. And he is right only one restaurant in that neck of the woods besides Tonys(small but decent) and that s Cookies at Theodosia Marina. Feel free to give me a shout before you come and hopefully I can tell you whats up.
Ive got a tournament coming up late Feb. Besides a rigs and vert jigging what color mega bass and spro jerk baits have been working best? Rogues and pointers have not been working well for me. May be my inexperience with jerk baits but i keep trying. …lol
