Need help with my bass cat

Hi all, I just recently purchased my first bass cat, It is a 1992 pantera classic 19ft with 150 evinrude intruder. it has a 4 blade ss prop and does not have a good hole shot and my top speed is 52 mph with me and my son in it and maybe 20 pounds of fishing gear and a half a tank of fuel. it does not have a jack plate on it. seems to have decent lift trimmed out and is very hard to steer but has new steering cables. the only thing not working is the tach so i cant tell you what kind of rpms im running. what can I do to get some more speed out of it?

sounds like the prop might be a tad too big. hard to tell without tachometer. a jack plate will help also.

I just looked at the prop its a 13 1/2 24 pitch predator and has G Brock stamped on it.

Probably need to try a 22″ pitch prop. May get by with a 23″ pitch, but that would depend on rpms.

It has probably been repaired since there is an embossing on the hub. That year model of a predator can be good for some older engines, though we would usually suggest other propellers on an Evinrude 150 such as the 24 Raker.

I think Ive got a 5″ pow-r-lift jackplate out in the garage somewhere . — Ill look when I get home , and if I find it all you have to do is pay the shipping to get it to you . — Jackplate / setback will help alot , but the tachometer is a neccessary component to get you dialed in . — Id think you should be able to run around 60 or 62 once you get it right , depending of course on how much weight you carry . — Ill post tomorrow to let you know if I find the jackplate . — Hoss

I run a Johnson fast strike 150 on my 97 PII, I run a raker 24 pitch, 64 mph @5300-5400 rpms (gps). Just recently I lost rpms and top speed reduced to 50-54 buts seemed to be running fine at 4700 rpms but couldnt gain any more Rs, if you push in on the choke when running and it perks up you have carb issues also the plastic bowls on the carbs warp and leak. You may want to have a mechanic check it out before you run it too much and have that tach fixed i pay more attention to it than the speed.

I would check to see why the tach is not working . My tach went out and it was bad volt regulators .y machanic told me the tach works off of the regulators. So have that checked out..
