Topic: Need help with trailer and surge brakes

I am sure that shear stupidity has set in but is there something special which locks out the surge brake temporarily so that the trailer can be backed up and incline w/o the brakes locking up ?

In the original equipment black satchel there should be a plastic bag with a small L shaped key in it that you will wonder what the _ _ _ _ does this fit! It fits the brake coupler on the trailer and keeps the actuator from enacting the brakes. You can also plug your pigtail in 90 degrees and turn the parking lights on till you get a 5 pin plug. Take the brown wire and plug it into the blue wire pin. Then you should be able to back up.

I just bought a 1993 P2 with surge brakes and no manual. Where can I find it?

that would be an Attwood Mobile system with UFP end units we believe. There is m ore information in the FAQ Section regarding the age and differences.

How do you know if the solenoid valve is bad?Harness unplugged, I can back up. Is there a reset on surge?

Then that indicates the brakes are not working.
