I need new tires for my trailer….. they have 4 Firestones p215/70 on their now…… I went to two tire places and they recommended trailer tires….. Need help what do you recommend Passanger tires…. or trailers……. What do i do???
http://bbcboards.zeroforu…read/319403-trailer-tires. Depending on what you have on the trailer now. If you have a newer boat/trailer, you probably have the upgrade wheels. Those usually use a passenger tire. If you have the basic tire/wheel combo, you would have something like a Goodyear Marathon. BCB has been using a high quality passenger tire for years with little issue. The used boat that I bought has Maxxis Trailer tires..these are blackwall and very good as well. Good luck.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
I just ran into an interesting situation when I went to have my tires replaced on my 20s. The shop (national chain) told me they are no longer authorized to install passenger tires on wheels that are being mounted on trailers. The guys acknowledged that the chance of failure is very low but they insisted that they could not install them. However, what they proceeded to advise me to to bring the wheels in and they could mount the tires. Well, I spent this past weekend running back and forth from my house to the shop with the wheels. Just a heads up, others may run into this problem, especially with the 20s. Regardless, I do not care how many trips it would have taken. I will not give up the 20s.
OK… this is what i found. the Cooper tire place will not sell me Cobras… since they are not trailer tires….. Googyear will sell me Marathons and mount them for me. They are 205/75-R15 WILL these work…
That is a typical dealer issue. Cooper is not the problem, just your local dealership. Take your pick and either will be fine. BCB
Thanks, I am gone with the goodyear they will mount them for me You dont think I will have any issues with clearance and the fender
Any time I have had to replace tires I have always removed them and carried just the wheel/tire to the dealer, that way it is a “dont ask, dont tell”. Flats have been my issue in the past. Jaybird, if you have 15″ wheels/tires, that tire size should be fine. The trailer tires on mine are 205/75/14, for 14″ wheels. Just make sure you get proper load ratings, etc.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Having experience with both brands i would go with the Firestones or Coopers, period……Never had an issue with either, just maintain proper inflation and youre well within tolerances, D.
Goodyear Eagles for the upgrade if you go with a Goodyear passenger tire(I ran those on my old Sabre as well), but I think he meant he was going with the Goodyear Marathons………. I would check to see if any dealer in the area carried the Maxxis Trailer Tire…4 ply tread/2 ply sidewall and a few $$ less than Marathons for better performance, IMHO. Again, depending on what you have had in the past, I would replace with like tires. What are on your trailer at present?96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
