About to take possession of a basscat tomorrow evening. I dont have anywhere to put the darn thing. So called boat storage is too high. I am thinking about a mini storage unit. Preferably a 10X25 something like that. Question is would a pantera classic be managable to push around off of the tow vehicle with a tandem axle trailer. Some of those mini-storage units can be tight. I am pretty big guy 62″ 250# so if it can be done, I am confident I can do it. Do any of you guys know anybody that does it and are there any disadvantages? Next question. I need a beach bumper. What is best kind if one is better than the other, what size do I need, is it easy and is it a two man job or one and doug I may need your supervision. Thanks in advance for your help. How wide of a space would I need and how tall, estimates are fine 07 classic with tandem trailer, fold away tounge. -lreddmann
You can push and pull the trailer forward and back but you can forget trying to turn the trailer at an angle. I had a basement garage with a sharp turn to get it in the door. Nearly impossible to do by hand by yourself. Had a boat dolly which helped. May want to check and see if the trailer has the pop axle feature if you have a sharp turn to make. Get a Hambys keel guard. Good luck and congrats on the new Cat! Chet
I agree with Bama. The sideways motion is what will kill you and no reason to get a hernia from trying to turn that boat. There are a couple of options for turning a boat as long as you are not on gravel and you dont have to go over lips you can use GoJaks…the other option is call service @ BassCat and talk to Scott or Bobby Lee about getting a pop axle retro fit kit. Those will allow you to move and the pop axle it wont matter the gravel or lips, it is just a little more time to get engauged. Keel guard I also agree with Bama…Hambys heavy duty is the only way to go for the best protection available. The downside to this is it becomes part of the boat because it is resined onto the boat and is not a self install job at all. Hambys also has a Light Duty that is a self install bumper. I dont know a thing about them so I wont comment on it. There are a few others in the stick on arena that are decent but none compare to the Hambys heavy duty for protection. I do realize not everyone needs that type of protection and that is when the others will do a great job. Take care and congrats on the new to you boat! Judd Lasiter
Dbasket once told me that if you crank to boat all the way down on the trailer tongue that it might take weight off of the back two tires but I am a popcorn fart compared to Bigfish and Dbasket and I cant do it. Remember that even if you jackknife the truck to get it lined up right you can always disconnect and push that sucker straight in with a dollyC.O.D. Jr. III
congratulations on the new ride, lets see some pics.
Hamby is the best beaching bumper, bar none. If you want affordability then go the their Keel Guard. BCB
Everything is set to go down tomorrow. I am sure I will sound like an academy award winner once I get my hands on it. I will post something prob thursday morning giving a few shouts out to the likes of Scott McGee, Judd, Doug, Ken Adamson, Allen McIntosh, Basscat and so on. So many people have been very helpful. I am buying the boat from Allen McIntosh in Madison (Jackson) MS. It is a sweet boat and it is an 07 classic in the color of the boat up top here. He is very loyal to cat, just no need for a boat that size anymore. Anyway is the hamby hard to install?
Hamby is a dealer/factory install only Lee, The Megaware will last awhile, and is easy install, but i would go Hamby. Dont give Judd too much credit, i think hes keeping score ! Besides, his head is big enough !And dang sure dont let him try to tell you how to drive that boat.
Make sure of the door opening size on the rental unit! When I got mine, I wasnt thinking and didnt check. Luckily my Puma will go in with 3″ to spare on either side. The unit itself is more than big enough, but the doors could be bigger. No way am I backing it in without a spotter. Im good, but Im also getting older and less brave (stupid?). Congrats on the boat!

Yeah and youre way behind Oh and instead take the boat driving lessons from the big grey haired guy that wont buy a fast one . No problem Lee, I have enjoyed the conversations we have had via email/PM and I am happy you finally found one you are going to LOVE that Classic it is a hot rod. Now you are going to make the basketboy unhappy when you blow by him on the river Take care and enjoy that new boat! JL
