Purchased a 2007 Puma 225 Optimax, running a 25P fury. My new toy has started pretty rough… First weekend, boat wouldnt plane, to the shop, dealer changed the TPS. 2nd weekend, boat was super slow out of the hole, and couldnt get it over 5000rpm, back to the shop and changed all the coils. 3rd weekend, Great hole shot again but only getting 65mph on on the GPS and turning 5400 rpm at WOT…then all sudden a power loss and no hole shot, back to the shop and determined one of the new coils went bad and also changed the reed valves due to one of them being warped. Got her back today and hole shot was great again but still 5400 Rpm and 65 on the GPS. Motor was flush on the jackplate (6 inch slidemaster) so after some reading raised it to 5/8ths of an inch above flush. Boat handled well but lost some speed down to 62 and about 5500 rpm. Going to drop the motor down to a 1/4 above flush and see how that does tomorrow and if that doesnt do it maybe lower? Any recommendations on prop or height? Or could I still be having motor issues? Looking at other similar boats and engines Im thinking I should get low 70s. am I expecting to much? Ive played with the trim and can only get just over 65….running empty live wells, 10 gallons in the belly tank, 10 gallons in the saddles, 4 batteries and a power pole with just me (225lbs). On vacation the next couple of weeks and going to try some tweaking. Hate to fish my first tourney in my new boat and get dusted at blastoff by an inferior boat brand…jk.
