Hi guys I need some help. I looking to buy a bass boat met get pantera iv but can get a sabre for nothing. Just wander if the sabre is good handle in the ruff water for a 18 boat and if it is all that roomy and is it just as good of quaity as the rest of the bass cats. Sorry for sound like a idiot just looking for info to help me. Because I will buy the pantera if the sabre is just not that good. Thank-you for the time
Run a search and you will find all sorts of input on the Sabre or the P4 at the top of these pages. BCB
Quality is going to be the same throughout the BCB lines. Just because the Sabre is the smallest in the line doesnt mean its lacking in anything. Are you going to have different ride based on the length, probably. I think it also depends on the person driving the boat. I am sure JohnM who has a 07 Sabre FTD will be chiming in on this one since he runs Kentucky Lake, which can get pretty nasty at times.
Nothing is going to be relative to some, then again some of us have darn near as much in our Sabre FTDs as others have in a PIV due to various reasons. Ive been around and in bassboats since the early 80s and feel like they are better now than they have ever been. I have had my Sabre FTD (same basic hull different top cap than a Sabre) on Toho, KY Lake, Guntersville, and many others over the past couple of years. Those three lakes can get NASTY QUICK! Ive never felt unsafe in my Sabre, its that good If I had the garage room I would likely have a PII knowing my need for speed LOL. Its the same layout as my boat with an extra foot of lenght. 19 is plenty for me. Ive toured the Cat factory along with several competitors, buy the Cat you prefer with confidence. Just go click on the pics of the OI and look at how many older boats are still fishing the event.
I have an 09 Sabre and love it!I have had several other Bass Boats through the years but none compare to the ride and quality of a Cat.I ran my Sabre recently in the lower James River in 25 knot winds, the river is really wide where it enters the Chesapeake Bay and the waves were huge. Not sure how tall they were but I made it across into a creek and back with no problem, course you have to be carefull and know how to read the waves and control your speed.
I will have to agree with all the other guys. I too have been around bass boats since the early 70s and have lived through their evolution; even owned a tin boat or two. I have owned Ranger and Triton but like my Sabre FTD beyond compare. You have to assess what you really want, need, and expect from any boat, but the ride and quality in all types of water is really great.
JonB, I run an 08 Sabre, and love it! I dropped back to the 18 from a 19 boat (not a Cat); and I was a little concerned about rough water capability too. But not anymore! I fish Rayburn and Toledo Bend regularly, plus other big lakes on the BFL Circuit. The Sabre is an awesome rough water boat and has a great ride, very stable….tho I will tell you in does take some seat time to learn to drive. At 18 the Sabre planes very easily and has a flat ride (meaning even at slow planing speeds, the bow does not ride high like other boats) and the bow will drop down into the top of the biggest waves; when it does that you will take water over the bow! Not bad, but once you learn your boat and how it responds to throttle and trim, you will ride high and dry! Good luck and no matter which model you settle into, you cannt go wrong with a Cat!!!!!!! Ive been running my 08 Sabre and couldnt be happier with it. There is no quality difference between it and the other models BCB makes. I have added the optional flippin deck and it fishes like a much larger boat. Two fish on the front deck now with room to spare. Its not unusual to get into rough water on the Arkansas lakes and its handled them all very well. Only once have I speared a wave in two years of running the boat. Typically I have no problem carrying the bow high and dry in the rough stuff. The only real deciding factor to go larger is going to be speed. If you need a 70+ rig – buy the Pantera. If 65 tops with handling like a “rat-in-a-drain-pipe” fits your needs – go for the Sabre.
I just got an 06 Sabre and was thinking about getting the flipping deck, does it bolt in and do you have to drill holes? Also how many of you have a hotfoot in your boat? My 93 PII had one and I kinda miss it.
The flipping deck is a must have!! Mine just has one bolt that attaches next to the drain screen but I dont have a cooler or anything under mineLast edited by mojorig on December 30th, 2009, 12:43 am, edited 1 time in total.
