Just received my new 08 Sabre FTD a couple weeks back – finally got her in the water this past weekend and had some questions: I have dual Humminbird 797si NVB units on the boat with the interlink system. There is a transducer switch that moves up/down above the main accesories switch under the key. My dealer and I were unsure as to how the switch works. It seemed like on the water switching it down got me accurate depths when running at higher speeds so I assume this was the boot/hull transducer? There is also a transducer strapped on the trolling motor head is there any difference/benefits other than running the bottom transducer when motoring to where I plan on fishing just so I have an accurate read on the water depth under the boat…? I guess I am not sure what the benefits/differences are of the two switches – can anyone shed some light? I also noticed some condensation inside the fuel gauge after being out in the rain fishing…is this anything to worry/be concerned with…? Last but not least, what should I use to wash the boat – is there anything that is preferred or anything I should avoid? What should I use to wash the seats? Windshield? I already waxed the boat down before putting it in the water. I also own and plan on using the Bass Boat Saver on it in the future as I pull it out of the water. For future what is the best way to clean the carpets if they were to get excessively dirty? Sorry for so many questions, just do not want to do anything to damage the boat when cleaning her up. Thanks in advance for the help and thank you BCB for such a great boat! I love the ride! Last edited by Halls1030 on April 9th, 2008, 3:28 am, edited 2 times in total.
Im pretty sure that the switch is the same as on my boat-to use on my 997SI. You have a ducer thru hull for running and one on the back for side imaging. The one on the back will not work very well when running, but is great for SI. Just remember to set switch for the event you are trying to use….. Hope this helps, SAMBAYOU BANDIT
The switch is only on the rear unit as the internal and external SI transducer transducers work one for the SI screen and one for chart. The SI will only function on the SI transducer. The front unit on a 797 is different and mounts to the head itself. The speeds you want to use the two units varies also as does setting them. The rear works best at 4 to 5 MPH, while the front varies based on graph speeds. There are some other really good sites for learning more about your new SI units. The gauge is usually an engine company gauge and if it is fogging it can be replaced by your dealer, or another of that same engine brand. Cleaning is just soap and water with a towel down when you pull it out. We like a good carnuba based wax, and Pledge works great to clean in between wax jobs. The seats can be cleaned with DOW Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner and Pledge also works on the vinyl. Do not use STP or Armorall preservatives. They dry and harden the vinyl. On the carpet you can use rug cleaner of about any variety, though soap works ok in a light mix. Then dry it with a shop vac and suck the water out. Hope thus helps and you enjoy your new BCB!
Thanks BCB and SamRush for the answers… I am already in the Yahoo SI group – trying to educate myself there… Thanks for the quick response as always.
When you use soap to wash it do not use Dawn as it will strip the wax. I use any automotive wax that does not contain a wax. In between waxes I can normally get away with BBS only. I cant tell you the last time I actually washed the boat. Just wipe it down with a little BBS and you are good to go. Start on the motor with a clean towel and do the windshield next…from there do the boat and the fenders then the wheels last. Rotate the towel so you arent rubbing the boat with dirt and you are good to go even on a pretty darn dirty boat. I use it on everything and it does a great job. I seem to go thru a gallon a year or so, stuff goes a LONG way. Glad you got your boat out and sorry the conditions werent nice (weather wise, I saw on the BBC). Judd Lasiter
I mix two tblspns of white vinegar with one quart of distilled water and keep the mixture in a $2.00 spray bottle in the back of my Tahoe for wiping the boat down after a day on the water. The vinegar & water mixture do an awesome job removing scum line stains from the hull and transom area. As BC mentioned, go sparingly with any soap product on the carpet cleaning, and if you do use soap, thoroughly hose the carpet down with water and pull the excess off with the shop-vac against the grain/nap of the carpet. Doing so will lift the nap up and make the carpet look new again. Also, if using a high pressure hose at a local carwash, keep the nose of the spray wand a good distance from the carpet as the intense pressure from some car wash sprayers can compromise the carpet edges / glue. Congrats on your new ride!

ROBIN Robin, I know as men we arent suppose to read the instructions bud but you missed the part about wiping it off with a dry cloth…then you dont get the film but more of a polished feel. Wet a towel (I use a hand towel) and then wring it out and spray the BBS on the wet towel. Wipe down and with your other hand have a try towel that you wipe right behind. Works great and you dont get the film unless you dont wipe it off with the dry towel. At least that is my 2 cents. Oh and hat is in the mail (I know you are used to hearing the check is in the mail ) JL
Robin, I got you one of those summer straw hats with the Crimson A on it that our boy Saban wears.
FOLKS NOW YOU REALIZE WHY I DONT MAKE MANY COMMENTS…….I AM NOT QUALIFIED…JUST DUMB…… OK PHIL…..GET MY BACK……. PLEASE SEND ALL HATS THO……SPECIALLY A NICK HAT….
