You can make the Eyra fish more like a ranger. Go out and buy about 500 pounds of lead and distribute it around the hull. It will be 10mph slower (at least) and it will be much more steady in the water when you move around. It will also burn a lot more gas, and be a lot less fun to drive, not to mention needing another 6″ of water to avoid bottoming and getting stuck in shallow water. I have fished out of rangers multiple times. Yes they are pretty stable. But they are also all the other things I mentioned above. And I would be concerned about quality after this recent exodus of top-level management since Bass Pro bought out everybody.I have a 19 classic. I weigh in at 200. I can move from side to side with no issues. My son weighs 160, and I dont particularly notice him moving around either. I suppose if he jumped from the seat area to the edge that might be noticeable, and if both me and him move to the same side at the same time you might notice it. But it is not like fishing out of a tin boat at all. To get stability you have to have more boat in the water. It is not about the width of the upper deck, it is about the width where the hull touches the water.I cant imagine you not liking that boat, and when you run by all the Rangers on the lake, you will like it even better. I was out this afternoon, and we encountered a Ranger (522 of some sort with what appeared to be a 300 hp soft drink machine on the transom). He tried for all he could to keep us from passing. He was alone, I had 400 lbs of passengers/dog with me. We were probably 3-4 mph faster. My GPS was recording 75.8 which is a loaded record for me. As far as the Etec goes, it goes, but we were faster. It all depends on what you are looking for. Ive been running bass boats since the early 80s, and I have driven a bunch of different ones. I decided 15 years ago I was going to eventually buy a Bass Cat when I retired. Boats were fun to drive, the classic was “my size” (you can have the carrier-deck boats where you have to keep waving off lost helicopters that want to land on them), and it seemed to have the highest quality of everything from glass to hull-design and everything in between. Id look at the Eyra as an UPGRADE over any ranger myself. Maybe if you have a weak stomach, the 22 ranger might suit you better, otherwise, order and dont look back.BTW, one thing you will notice. EVERYTHING on a BassCat that seems a bit “odd” will reveal its true purpose and functionality to you once you use the boat a few times. Some dont like the up-front trolling position. Put me off at first. Would not EVER go back to the middle of the deck again, more advantages up front than I can count. The not-quite-centered passenger seat has a reason as well. Ask your co-angler about having a nice solid place to store rods while running, for example.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

I bought a new Eyra in December, came out of a Sabre. My son and I are thrilled with the Eyra and really like the layout. The more I fish out of it, the more I like it. Its a blast to drive, handles great. My son had a high school tournament Saturday and they have a 60 mph speed limit. I had to restrain myself not to go over 60, the Eyra is just plain fun to drive. I cant help on the G2, running the Mercury 250.Whe are you located? Try and get a ride in one, Im near Lake Conroe in Texas if youre ever down this way.
I have a back injury and fish rough water a lot. I spoke to John Crews for about 30 minutes on which boat he thought handled rough water best. He said of the puma, cougar, and eyra, that he believed the eyra handled it the best and that when I come out of my 2006 classic, that I should take a serious look at it. I love my classic, but as soon as my new toy hauler is paid for, I will look at all the 20 footers as well as the Jaguar.Cannot comment on the g2, sorry.
The Eyra is one hell of a boat in every aspect of the word. Some anglers do not like the forward position of the BCB TM pedal. The Eyra gives the option to move it aft, along with the seat post. The front deck is the best in the industry for flipping docks, trees, structure. Also great for casting underhand with crankbaits and spinnerbaits to get under structure. If your fishing big water you can move the TM pedal aft if needed. The coffin lids to me are the best. Once you get set up and used of it, its a great set up. As far as performance, as stated above, once on plane, 60 mph will cove very fast. It handles like its on rails. It will literally pin you to the side of the boat.Loved mine! Wish I still had it.Unfortunately I cannot comment on the G2.
Like all large format brp products its got a sewing machine idle and ideally runs awesome but as their market share is now #4 and they were desparate enough to offer a massive warranty change one has to wonder about their longevity. As always if your mechanic bleeds blue and can keep you running its doable. As for eyra- I own one. Have had a puma FTD and a p4 and have fished outta most other hulls at bcb and others. Im a short square guy and the front deck has been great. Drove a puma FTD a few months ago, immediately noted larger front deck but still Ive never felt like I was missing it or cramped.C.O.D. Ill add one comment that may not be very important for many people, but one that is always towards the top for me. Im really into exterior design and graphics. The eyra has the best contour lines of all the models (thus far); it really is what differentiates this boat. Speed is great, storage is great, fishing is great; but I like the design most of all. It would be fun to see if BCB could take this model and try to incorporate a unique, completely different, graphics package – something along the lines of what FourWinns does with their Signature Series models. BCBs parent knows a lot about graphics. Anyway, the Eyra is still my favorite design of them all.
Ive been in every model currently built. The Eyra is my favorite. I would also like to highly recommend the Mercury Optimax.
Thanks everyone.
