We understand that there may be new rules requiring collegiate team boats for FLW participation. If so then we feel this forms an opinion forus we feel obligated to share, issueing firm position stance and statement on. Can anyone enlighten us?
There arent. Though, you are slightly favored in the registration process if you provide your own boat (school/club owned or otherwise).
huh? BOAT OPERATION:QUALIFYING EVENTS – Teams may supply, and drive, their own boats. FLW will secure a maximum of 30 anglers who will act as tournament officials, providing and driving boats for teams that do not supply their own boat. Contestants will determine fishing locations and operate the trolling motor. Contestants may not ask for or receive assistance or information about locating or catching fish on tournament waters from tournament officials. Violation of this rule may result in disqualification.INVITATIONALS AND THE 2014 FLW COLLEGE FISHING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP – FLW will provide tournament officials (who are not permitted to fish) and boats for use by all teams that are not supplying their own boats. Contestants will determine fishing locations and operate the trolling motor. Contestants may not ask for or receive assistance or information about locating or catching fish on tournament waters from tournament officials. Violation of this rule may result in disqualification.Participations and Eligibility …Entries will be accepted beginning at 8 a.m. Central time Dec. 17, 2012 for teams from school clubs represented in the 2012 College Fishing National Championship. All other teams may enter beginning Dec. 18, 2012. Top entry priority will be given to teams that supply their own boat. All other priority will be assigned by date and time of entry. If a team is unable to supply their own boat after indicating they will do so at the time of entry, the team will lose its top entry priority. Entries may be made either by phone or on the Internet at CollegeFishing.com. Do not make entry by more than one method. The number of teams accepted from each club is determined by the total number of clubs entering each event. If 50 clubs enter, each club will be represented by one team (subject to boat availability). If fewer than 50 clubs enter, each club will be represented by at least one team, and any openings remaining will be distributed among clubs entering multiple teams (subject to boat availability). Entries received after the field has filled will be placed on a waiting list…Seems wide open to me? I ASSume that “team supplying boat” is not equivalent to “team owned boat”?Last edited by clownshoes on November 20th, 2012, 5:10 pm, edited 2 times in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
Welcome Jody. In addition to fishing for Virgina Tech, he and his dad belong to the Bass Club I joined last year Rutland Bass. Both are pretty good fisherman (much better then I) and fish out of a 2005 Puma. I let him know BCB posted this thread to see if he wanted to comment as he is very involve with FLW college tour. He will be in AR in the spring for collegiate event. Jody has some nice articles and videos shot on Lake Champlain very much worth reading/watching for those interested. Link to his site under his name.Brian
I think they set aside up to 30 boats/anglers if needed to help out the kids. I dont think it infers having to fish out of a particular brand and I dont know of any schools around here that supply boats.Maybe the parents, but not the schools……..Even though Aaron is eligible to fish all 3 trails, FLW Collegiate, Bassmaster Carhartt College and the Boat US Collegiate (ACA), he only fished Boat US and BASS last year. I think Arkansas Tech only sent 1 team for the FLW side.Brian, there are a couple of college events in the spring in Arkansas, which ones are they looking at?96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
FLW related I believe.
Yeah, not too many schools own a boat. I know Wake does. And Im pretty sure Bethel and Dallas Baptist have boats too.
I saw that…..people bringing their boat will get priority in the tournament entry.BR200 will be in Florida in JAn for the BASS college regional on the Harris Chain. He will take the Bass Cat for that event. He is planning on leaving it at a friends because he will be headed back to Okeechobee the next weekend for the FLW event there……..provided he gets registered.
Hey if you guys dont mind….As a parent how do you guys feel about fishing this way this much in college? From a distance I almost worry that these kids are being pushed to be like the pros way to much way to fast at a time where a degree with a good GPA means more.Man when I was in school sure(89-93) I went to a few parties(fraternity president-animal house) and even took my boat to Nashville but I couldnt imagine fishing and practicing and having fishing on the brain the way you have to in order to compete while also making grades and getting a job. Maybe because my degree is in chemical engineering I didnt have as much time?Certainly I saw basektball and football and golf guys do this but I gotta be honest without scholarship assistance I wouldnt be too excited about my kid doing this in college. The percentage that “make it” is higher in fishing but “making it” aint no bed of roses professionally. Is there any club level assistance from the University? How do you dads and students see this? I guess as long as grades are good all is ok?I am curious how yall see this?Last edited by clownshoes on November 21st, 2012, 2:31 pm, edited 2 times in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
Here is how we feel: National and Regional Collegiate Bass Fishing events. These incentives will be $2,000 for those with a GPA of 3.25 or better, and $1,000 for those with a GPA of 2.75 or above, for Sanctioned Regional or National Collegiate Championships.
