I took a look at a new Eyra a few weeks ago at Texas Boat World and noticed that there is less space behind the wheel, is this only for the Eyra or are all Bass Cats going to those dimensions behind the wheel? This is something that is extreemely important to me as I am 67″. Thanks,JR
All models are different and those with the bolt in consoles have less room due to draft for mold pulling. The models vary based upon design requirements. The seat pan models are a bit tighter, though the newer seats, required draft, consoles and all tighten up the leg room some. BCB is working on trying to find an option.
Hey JRoberts, I Too am tall 6ft 5 and wider, a Cougar FTD or Puma/or FTD will give you a fast expanse behind the wheel, the Eyra should have had a tilt wheel, The only boat I cannot fit behind is a Sabre, but with a Tilt wheel its perfectly fine, us Big Boys are used to adjusting to fit. I just moved from a 03 PIV to an Eyra. Im 66″ – 250. Now Ive only had my Eyra out 4 times, so still some time yet to get “settled in”. Being from MN, I hadnt seen one in person before committing. When I picked it up and dropped it in the water to break in, i immediately thought “wow, theres not much room behind the wheel”. But each time Im in it, it feels more roomy, and Im sure its just because Im getting more used to how I need to position. Plenty of wheel room, so thats a non issue in my eyes. Leg room was really the only concern. Ive got a hot foot, and its really only my right leg room… my left has plenty of room as I can straighten it out just find under the console. For my right leg, the hot foot is positioned slightly different than it was on my PIV. I also have a size 16 shoe, which causes a little issue with any hot foot in any boat. What Ive started to get comfortable with is having my toe in the hot foot pedal, but my heel is off to the left of the slide plate, rather than right behind the pedal itself. I also know that 65″ – 67″ is built in many different shapes and sizes… I have a 36″ inseam if that helps gauge my leg length.Id say if youre NOT getting a hot foot, then I think youll be perfectly fine with no worries. If you are getting a hot foot, like me you might need to get used to a different driving position than what you might have been used to before, but my early thought is Ill have plenty of room.
Thanks for the responses guys, I currently have an 08 Cougar FTD, and this is my second Cougar and third Bass Cat. I was just curious if all the boats were going to the dimensions that the Eyra has. (Thanks Bass Cat for the explanation) I am pretty hung up on my Cougar, and will most likely stay with this model when I look to get a new one next year. Thanks again,JR
It would be great if BCB would figure out a way to extend leg/foot room into the rod locker on the driver side.
Ok, so I just saw the Marty Stone bit on the new consoles. I currently own an 08 Cougar FTD, will the 2011 Cougar FTDs have the same space behind the wheel as my 08?Thanks,JR
It should all be fine with steering wheel offsets. The wheel should be in the same location.
The Puma ftd, Puma and Cougar ftd are a great boat and have all the room you will need. Texas Boat World is the only dealer you will ever need as well!. I have been shopping boats and decided on another rig but I had great service and response from Cliff at Texas Boat World and would have bought from him if I decided on the Puma. Have not been in the Eyra so I cannot give a comparison. If you need additional info give Cliff a call and he will help you to make a decision.Good Luck
