Update. After running my new classic with the 150 for a half dozen times with the 23p Fury it came with, it became pretty obvious the prop was all wrong for this rig. I was all over the rev limiter way too early. Tried to lower the motor to about 1 inch below flush on the jack plate and still pushing 6100. The 23p fury cannot get the boat out of the water onto the pad, just not enough lift at all. Max speed with that setup was 50 mph.
I ended up trying out a 24p 4 blade fury today with the jack plate set back to flush (as it was from factory). Hole shot was still great, unnoticeable difference from the other prop. With the 24p 4 blade it was immediately noticed how much more lift there was, putting the boat on the very back of the pad very quickly. With this setup, I was able to get it to 58.2 mph at 6000 rpm. With this setup, the only thing I’ve noticed in the negative category is that there is a small rooster tail at WOT. Maybe 1 foot above the cowl of the motor at WOT. So, maybe there is some more efficiency to be had with motor height. Doing the math, with the 150 pro xs 4 stroke at 6000 rpm, 2.08 gear ratio, 24p it looks like its currently running about 11% slip at the 58.2 mph.
So, it is getting there. I figured when I picked this boat up that it would be around a 60 mph boat. It is still impressive the hole shot that 150 provides, and it gets on pad quickly now, and has great mid range cruise on plane. Any thoughts on how to get the last little bit of setup dialed in would be appreciated.
Thanks.
