New Pantera II bow hook rubbing spare tire

I just picked up my first Bass Cat (Pantera II) three days ago. I have the Shooter rims. I have only been abet to get her wet once and she runs great, cant wait till the break-in is over. I noticed when launching the boat, the bow hook loop scraped across my spare tire and rim. I was launching by myself by it scraped before I got into the boat. Has anyone else experienced this with the Shooter rims? Any suggestions or help appreciated, I dont want to scratch up my rim or rub a weak spot in the tire if I can avoid it. Thanks.

Any chance you are launching from a very steep ramp?

first, welcome to the family! You may be in too deep with your trailer. Tendency when launching alone is to not power off and just back in, hit the brakes to float off with bow line attached. You can still do this, but just watch backing in too deep before hitting the brakes. Tons of posts on here if you do a search. Good luck and welcome!

The ramp was shallow so I might have backed too far to get it off of the trailer. It did not rub when loading. I will try tomorrow to power it off to see if it rubs then. I loaded a couple pictures. Thanks.

Shallow ramps only present a problem when you go to deep. The launch and shooting it off the trailer work very well. There is definitely a learning curve on a Bass Cat hull unloading as well as loading. Too deep on the trailer is the general reason outside of one instance. The only exception is a ramp that is angled steep with a flat vehicle area, there you can impact the tire in some cases. Most common is Ross Barnett where ramps are stable on elevations and they build them flat topped with angles. There are no common factors other than excess trailer depth otherwise. The reason is the increased Vee bow on a Bass Cat over most other brands with a more pronounced sharp cutting Vee on the bow.

so how far down generally speaking, do you recommend? On all other boats Ive always gone with something around the tops of the tires, tops of the fenders level with top of water for loading….13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods

Here is a link to a some pictures of loading a Sabre. You can see how shallow the trailer is, and a lot of bunk out of the water during loading. You should put the bow ring up against the roller. http://basscatowners.yuku.com/topic/101 … ing-images
