Hi, iam looking at getting a new boat. A 2001 pantera iii with 2006 opti, or a 2006 pantera iv with an 06 efi?. Please help me out. Thanks

I cant help you with the P IV, but I have a P III (2000) and it is an outstanding boat. Great rough water ride, fast, fishes great, etc. It can be slow out of the hole if you have a 2.5 L engine but the 2006 you mentioned is probably a 3 L so you should be fine. Unless the P III has the flippin deck extension that will be the biggest difference between the two boats since the P IV has the full deck. Let me know if you have any specific questions about the P III and Ill be glad to help you out.

Never heard a bad word on the PIII. Have only seen one when I met a guy from Massachusetts on south Champlain. Thing still look brand new and he loved it. Fast too. Optis 3.0s are great engines and miserly on gas at 4500 RPMs. Love mine. PIV a great boat too and EFIs are strong but thirsty.

The above statement is very accurateThe p3 Isa very nice riding boat. In addition it is also pretty fast. The p4 replaced the p3 and it too has a very good ride. It just not quite as fast on the top end. Both engnes are reliable with the edge in reliability and top end speed to the efi as long as it has a 3.0 block. Fuel economy nod goes to the optimax not even close as the optimal will get 30-40% better. The decision is ultimately yours and I dont have a preference on either. Get the one thats in better condition! Good luck!

EFIs are pretty reliable engines.
