While I have been hoping for a decent center step box, I think from the pics this one may be a tripping hazard, the small distance from the handle to the lock look like a problem, someone will trip and break the kneecap or the windshield. I may be wrong but like I said above its the distance. Try someone with a size 13 shoe LOL. Get rid of the handle and put some rubble like padding on it. Trying to be constructive, Just my 2C.

I told my brother that it was my concern as well. Before I get bashed by anyone, I speak from experience as I DID trip and fall while stepping off one of the older carpeted boxes. I was wearing my heavy weather rain suit and I am no longer an athlete. Got a large deep hip bruise when I hit the rod box. And that was without a grab bar.
With that bar slightly bowed and the small non skid, it’s going to happen imho. It won’t take rain/cold gear to have it occur, again imho.
I’ll take my chances. BCB just let me know when I can order one for my 2018 Erya I already called and tried…..lol
The do plan to offer it in time. Though the box has to be a smaller fit for previous production models. Spending time tooling molds on new models is the most important for the company. They also will have color challenges when this part is completed. The new Parts Booths in the new complex will help with ability to build parts for after market product.
They simply don’t have room or time now to build retro parts and match colors up on older boats. Waste product on mixing required and time for coloring two small molds definitely is a part of the challenge. To color a mold and glass it requires a process. Each color must be flushed and much of the colors are lost in waste materials.
Pre Production
1. Tooling
2. Mold production
3. Preparation, sanding, polishing and waxing three parts (3)
Then production
4. Cleaning molds of dust and Clear application on flake parts (2)
5. Mixing matching colors and Flake application (flake colors are not premixed and this is a manual process)
6. Spray lower inside pan in colored gel coat.
7. Backup of barrier coat (black) all parts
8. Fiberglass the parts by Lamination and wet trim
9. Removal from the molds
10. Preparation, edge preparation and cutting for assembly
11. Finish Coloring the backside of the parts
12. Assembly of the bottom pan inside the lower assembly
14. Cutting for assembly
15. Hardware install to the box, hinges, grab handles, latches, trim (2), step pad, cup holders interior pad
16. Finish assembly for shipment or install.
Packaging and delivery
Yep, nothing to it and we left out the tools and widgets.

Wow! just saw this step box and was thinking the same thing. Though the handle is a great idea , the location appears to be an accident waiting to happen. Maybe placing two smaller handles on each side running vertical where your toes wont get under it.
It doesnt matter if it has handles or no handles somebody is gonna find a way to bust their ass. Its kinda like offering wide decked boats. Somebody is gonna find a way to lose their balance and find a way into the water. The new step box in my opinion is a nice upgrade over the carpeted step box. It works and i find it no more of a tripping hazard than previous offerings.
I have to agree with you Phil. People have commented and requested a nicer center box and BCB has answered and it looks good. And yet people still want to complain. Whatever happened to looking where you step?! Pretty simple.
I know I’ll be ordering one once they become available for the older models, the look is much better.
Yeah, these are sharp for sure. Gonna need to find a way to make this happen in my boat for sure. Really like the new design! Good job BCB!

Calm down snowflake, it’s called constructive criticism. 😁

😂 That’s exactly what I am doing is providing constructive criticism…watch where you are stepping. And it actually applies to a lot of situations in life (handles, snakes, dog poop). You’re welcome
It does amaze us how opinions arise which have never tried to use a part. It honestly is a very small opening in the grab handle and one that the toe angle would be extreme to ever even tip in the small gap. Having used it through first prototypes to final product, it’s no issue.
I hope to get one when they become available outside normal production builds.
As far as tripping, I have never tripped going to the rear of the boat or to the front of the boat using the current carpeted step.
I have busted my ass many times on the front deck. My award winning trip/fall was going after a fish that came off while swinging it. Jumped at it. Tripped. Caught my ribs across the gunnel. Knocked a pole in the water, and lost the fish! On my knees trying to catch my wind, my wife was on the back fishing looking at me like I had a seizure!! LMAO!!
P.S: This all happen after jumping in the water to retrieve a pole that I had thrown on the deck which than bounced into the lake! (I had missed hook sets on 4 fish lost my temper). My wife never missed a beat. She was still working a jig. Looked at me treading water with my pole, she said, “Looks like ya drowning”! HAHAHAH! It was our Anniversary!
So tripping on the new step is the least of my worries!
Cajunhunter – that’s hysterical and I can relate. I threw a rod down, and just like you, it bounced into the lake and just like you, I jumped down after it and landed on the gunnel on my sternum. I got the rod but I couldn’t fish for about 20 minutes. My tournament partner almost peed on himself laughing at me. If it had been my wife she probably would have tried to kick me in the lake. As for the new step box, if you look at the pictures you would almost have to be a ballerina and standing on your toes for them to go under that step and trip. I will definitely get one once they are available and I have no concerns about tripping. I think it looks awesome.

I was one of the first to question how the handle may get in the way, if you say it is not a issue Great, but when in shorts during the warm weather and kneeling on the box to get into the livewells that non skid material will tear you up. I suggest changing it to rubber like that used for the rods on the console. Thanks
