Im a Mercury guy through and through but, I have been reading a lot of thing about the new 4.0 250SS Suzuki outboards with there 6 year warranty and there great fuel mileage. I see tons of the 150 and smaller Suzuki motors up here on catfish rigs and those guys swear by them. I was just wondering if anyone has seen are is running one of the 200hp up motors and if so, what kind of feed back youre hearing. I heard rumor that there is a Puma with a 250SS on the back of it around or on The Lake of the Ozarks, but I cant find out who. Glenn

I think they had a Puma/ 250SS combo at the dealer meeting last summer, and i bet Judd can tell you about it ! If i were a 250 fan i would consider the engine. I ran a 95 Suzuki for about nine years on my 90 P2, and sold it to a friend who is still running the engine. They are tough, though most wont perform with the Mercs,,,,other than the old bass 150, it was a runner and had the right gearcase on it to handle big props which helped tremendously, D.

I did have the opportunity to drive the Puma/250SS at the dealer meeting. It was an AWESOME rig. I was impressed with the gauge package and stability of the thing. You could litterally take your hands off the wheel at 73-74. It was quiet and gave the Puma a completely different “feel”. I was a little disappointed in the holeshot but BCB commented about a prop would fix that. They played with the motor quite a bit I could tell. Would I run one??? Not sure, it is tough to beat a two fiddy ProXS right now in my opinion. Plus, their dealer network isnt as large so you better have a good shop planned out to get service local. If I was going that route I would want to run a Verado before I made that commitment to a Suzy… Take it for what you paid for it…but my 2 cents. Judd Lasiter
