New Towing vehicle 20″ vs 22″

Thinking about getting a new vehicle. Any + or -s 20s vs 22″ wheels when it comes to towing etc?Ron

My Dodge Ram and Chevy Tahoe both have 20s on them and I have no problem towing. I would stay away from the 22s because they are usually a very low profile. They would just be more expensive to replace and not hold up as well.

I have 20″s on my 2011 GMC HD2500 DuraMax and they have done very well and it is a towin machine!… Sherm

Not from the towing aspect as only hitch height matters and that us adjusted with the receiver and ball style.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like the biggest issue is cost and replacement costs of tires down the road. Ron

Ron, where we go you mght consider just sticking with stock ! Otherwise have some extras at home and someone to bring them to you with lugs !

For what its worth I had 20″ on my last truck and it rode like a wagon, so when I order my new truck I had 18″ put on it and with a little more side wall it rides a lot better.

My truck has 275/55 20s and rides like a dream. The trailer has 255/35ZR20s and pulls like a dream. I did 75/80 m.p.h. from Mountain Home to San Antonio, no issues (other than horrible m.p.g.). The truck tires are the same radius as 18s. 22s will be a whole different ballgame. Much more $$ to replace.

Ron, you and I run the same truck, but I think yours runs 17″ tires. Mine runs the 18″ and that size is fairly slim choosings unless you special order. My Titan is not the Pro4X, just LE 4X4 that had stock goodyear wranglers. After 105K miles and two sets, 4 tire patches, I beefed up with the Nittos.I would stick with tire sizes that are easy to come by, 17s or 20s……….no matter what tow vehicle you choose.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

Ive got a 2011 Sierra 4×4 with 20s on it. It tows just fine, but does not get the mileage my 2010 with the same options on it except 17″ wheels. My 2011 gets about 11mpg towing, my 2010 got right at 12. Not a major difference, but still not quite as good. I will say the 2011 gets better mileage on the highway, not towing than the 2010 did. Im right at 20mpg at highway speed. I dont know if the wheels make the difference or not. Both trucks were extended cabs, 1/2 ton 4x4s with the 5.3 engine.
