New Trailer Bunk Design

BCB,Will extra caution have to happen taken when you pull the boats out of the water after you fish? The bunks look like they could get “slippery”. Everyone I know loads boat on the trailer and your partner pulls you out and doesnt strap it down until you stop and get in a park. On steep ramps pulling out have any issues risen with boats sliding back?Hunter

I wouldnt recommend this on any ramp with any bunk material. Ive seen pictures and stories of several boats laying on ramps. It takes 10 seconds to put the strap on and winch tight.

I actually saw a boat slide off the bunks after a tournament this year. The ramp isnt even steep, the entire boat was on the concrete. It scared the crap out of me because it was sliding towards my truck and boat. At that moment I had a flash back when I was 16 and got my first boat my dad telling me to always hook up the boat before pulling it out. Im only 32 and have seen 3 boats come off bunks at ramps.

Ive never seen anyone pull out without first hooking up the strap. Never seen a boat end up on the ramp either. The few seconds it takes to hook up can prevent a lot of aggravation not to mention expense. When I launch I always take a second to prepare the strap and winch for loading again. Easy and smart.

I had an aluminum boat slip off my trailer and land on the skeg, one time. Boy, was I ever embarrassed! Now I hook it up before I pull out. A lot more money if things go wrong.

Hunter, we have not experienced this. From our tests the boats stay put on the bunks just as they would using carpet. With that said, we can never recommend leaving the boat unhooked while backing down or pulling up a ramp. Weve all seen what can happen at certain ramps, or in below freezing conditions, and its worth taking the time to secure the boat to the trailer.BCB

Wow I have never seen anything over about jet ski size slide off trailers. I must be around some really good boat ramps. When Im in town I fish at least 3 afternoon tournaments a week on various lakes around house and then again on Saturdays and rarely see anybody come out of the driver seat in the boat until you parked. Maybe too many rednecks here in AL (me included) haha thanks for opinions guys
