i read somewhere that three sheets of 1/4 plywood with fiberglass in between them is stronger than 3/4 marine plywood. my question is, would this method work for the transom?

What boat? Model and year? BassCat may be able to make one for you and save you the hassle of doing so.

On Monday call Pete in parts, ask him because they sell transoms there, you may be able to buy the fiberglass tansom panel and use it, that would be killer…You can get Coosa, Plywood I dont know the thickness answer, Doug McGee may know on bbc, go to the Bass Cat area, Id just talk to BCB on Monday, give them your Serial # and they will hook you up

If the transom is bad on the rebuild your doing, then we would use 1/2″ AC exterior in three layers. 1/4″ was a good product years ago though the core laminate is weak now and they usually are just three with Two of those being skins.
