Humminbird 898 still under warranty on my 2012 Puma Ftd and the puck transducer went out and wouldnt read depth. I had it replaced under warranty and it reads now but when I hit 50 mph it I lose signal and depth readings. The only way to regain signal is to bank the boat left or right or to slow down to around 45mph. Before the original puck went out, I could run 75 and not loose depth reading. I contacted the BCB dealship which replacedthe puck and the corrective measure that was suggested was to slow the boat down when I wanted to obtain depth readings. I need some input to resolve this issue running a boat 45 to get a depth signal is not acceptable.Last edited by grimmjsg on February 4th, 2013, 11:41 pm, edited 1 time in total.

I had a 797 on a Baycat and now have a 997 on my 09 Cougar neither of them would read about 50-55mph. Sorry I have no answers for you.

Had same problem with used Bass Cat Puma FTD 2009, call BCB and he told me that puck needed to be about 2 1/2 Inches in front of drain plug, when I looked it was as far forward as you could place it. You could tell that a puck used to be where it was meant to be, I replace with new and now it reads well up to 72, then it drops out, good enough since at anything above that my driving skill are lacking.

Your boat is on pad and transducer is located in an area that is not in contact with water at speed. It will not read unless hull is in contact with water. All you can do is slow down or move transducer, good luck.

From our experience anything above 45 is only obtainable with the nose tucked down, trimmed under, and then we loose depth at around the 60 mph range. There is simply too much air above 60 going between the hull and water. Transducers read air and then return that signal, thus your transducer can not read through air.

I had the same issue. On my Ranger which was bought new in 2011 the 798 would not read the bottom well or depth at speeds over 50 MPH. On my 2012 P4 my 788 CI HD DI reads the bottom and depth well but you cant go over 45 MPH.Running wide open its useless. BCB is right hard to read when air is under the boat plus most dont read well at high speeds anyway. I will say Lowrance in my opinion reads better at high speeds than Humminbird.
