NMEA battery draw question

I recently installed a NMEA 2k network directly to my cranking battery. Wondering if this was the right thing to do as it might be constantly draining the crank battery. If this is not correct how should I have wired it. Also there is a master switch that kills everything. Ideally I should have probably wired it there but dont know how. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Leave it connected directly to the crank battery. Running extra electronics through the master switch and adding extra load to the boats harness is not a good idea. If you are concerned about parasitic drain, simply install a battery disconnect switch. I use BEP 701s for battery cut offs in my boat, and their installation is easy. Hopefully you have a quality cranking battery to begin with.

If this is a newer boat then the circuit breaker switch should serve as the disconnect. If not then they certainly can get you one through Parts. BCB
