There are always exceptions but I have always had my charger cord on top of the gas tank and so far have never had it fall down into the bilge and had to go hunting for it. Maybe I’m just that lucky guy.

I wire strap the end of the cord, just before the plug, to the strap handle on one of my troller batteries. I alway know where it is, it never moves, and is easy to plug in from there. You could wire strap it wherever it is convenient for you in the battery compartment.
