Will any model redesign ever possibly consider a non-skid option? Ease of upkeep, not to mention comfort (with one of the seadek-type coverings) would be a big plus for some, maybe many? Not many options otherwise except for R boats or going to a flats/bay model. Just wondering if a project like the hybrid hull we hear about has better potential for sales instead of the non-skid option? I see the YarCraft tiller model with nonskid and it looks like a real innovative boat, really wowed me, but not a big enough front deck and figure it probably drafts deeper than a Cat. Just wondering. I dont think I can bring myself to buy another boat with carpet.
We have the original stripped national registration by county seat for saltwater boats from 17 to 25. The number in the 19 to 21 range is broad in variety and the number of registrations in boats with this style concept, Lake & Bay for example, is very limited. Comparing a hull that has significant users to a product (decking) others have flailed with on similar boats is not viable. We Do get the question frequently. The cost would be estimated at $2k to $3000 more today. Then our concern is total replacement cost in a higher use product is estimated as $4-5000 per unit for long term owners. Much higher and more difficult than carpeting. We wont say never, though we dont think its high volume numbers from data we have. Then thats assuming everyone has one model that is offered with the product, now you have people wanting a Sabre FTD and a Jaguar… Whole new can of worms. I understand the sales implications from BCBs standpoint. Lake and Bay and other flats/bay options dont offer enough bass boat options like recessed pedal tray, gunwales so you cant easily kick a rod off, etc. They also tend to have center consoles and most lack good rod boxes. Most true flats boats lack speed and big water performance also. I came out of one of the premium brand flats boats to my Bass Cat. I was hoping at least one model might be offered some day (like a Lynx? Pretty please? haha). Doing it in a premium model would probably eliminate the worry over added expense of the option at least. If it were truly a non-skid surface there is also the option to go with just deck. Theres a builder (Big O Boats) in SFL that is the closest thing outside of an intercoastal (which R only seems to offer in one or maybe two platforms). If they were a little wider I would probably end up in one. I cant handle the bolted on blingy appearance stuff on the current Rangers. Carpet is really the only thing I dont like about my Cat, so Im not really complaining, just wanted to ask to maybe have a glimmer of hope before I start spending much time looking at other options.
I too would look this option. Actually know a guy who has a “R” boat with the flats type floor Ive look at it many times over. Though Ive never fished out of it. Ive asked him about fatigue over a day of fishing. And the ease of cleaning it. Fatigue would be my only concern. Though I do like the concept!2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
bare nonskid might be worth talking about in terms of fatigue, but seadek or similar material on top of the non-skid would be undoubtedly more cushioned than carpet, especially once the nap has been compressed after a year or two of use. I know it would be a regional thing because Im in FL, but theres no way wed be talking 4-5K for putting new, custom cut seadek in, unless i misunderstand that part of the statement. Thats including installation and probably all the custom logos, and fancy custom stuff if you wanted it. Once they have a pattern on file they could and do cut the stuff and let owners self-install it frequently.
That was replacement cost to second and third owners. Initial cost difference is estimated at $2k to $3,000.00.
I would absolutely purchase a Puma, jaguar, or Lynx with no carpet and a non skid deck, even if the non skid was not padded. I had two Triton versions of this kind of boat years ago and loved how easy it was to keep the deck clean. Also, it frees us to fish both fresh and salt water with fewer worries. I say give it a try BassCat. I bet you would be surprised by the number of boats you would sell. You know much more about it than I do though. I can only say that I loved my two Tritons with the nonskid fiberglass decks. To be completely fair, I absolutely loved my 2009 Bass Cat Puma that had carpet. Bass Cat is just such a high quality boat and would be the cats meow, pardon the pun, with fiberglass non skid decks. Come on Bass Cat, give it a shot!Last edited by Corky on May 22nd, 2017, 5:37 am, edited 2 times in total.
Big enough want for me that I would buy whichever it was an option on between Caracal, Puma/Cougar, or Lynx.
Prior to purchsing my P2, I looked at Action Craft, Hewes and Sterling flats boats, I also looked at the R intercoastal. I then stopped at the SeaDek plant in Rockledge Fl, They told me that expected life of SeaDek was 3-5 years depending how the boat was stored. While I very much liked it compared to carpeting the flats boats still left a lot to be desired like rod boxes, the finish of the comprtments, dull unexcited finishes and seating was a after thought ie. a cushion Yuk. I stayed with a bass boat until someone comes up with something better. I asked BCB about SeaDek and was told no way. I tried. FYI
BCB, Would you like to experiment and build me a 2018 Caracal with SesDek ? Iam game if you are. I dare you, double dare LOL
