Got back yesterday afternoon from a couple of days at Lake Fork. The wind blew like crazy most of the time, and we had a pretty good thunderstorm on Thursday. Still managed to catch a few fish and generally had a good time. A couple of things I observed during our visit:Lots of folks are buying the new Yamaha SHO. Saw quite a few on the lake behind R and S boats. One guy came in on Friday afternoon and stayed in the room next to us. He had a 250 SHO on a new S boat. Spent a bit of time talking with him and asking questions about the motor. He has about 50 hours on his and has been very impressed with it. However, he hit a stump right at dark on Friday and trashed the prop and propshaft… Felt bad for the guy, as he only got to fish a couple of hours. He was heading to a local shop on Saturday morning to see how long it would take to fix.Saw a bunch of Bass Cat boats around. Noticed several of the local guides were running BCB. Four or five BCB owners were staying at the same place we were. The ones I got a chance to talk to were a very friendly bunch.Lots of folks are using motor covers while fishing. Hadnt really noticed the trend around home, but probably 10% of the boats we saw on Fork had covers on. I am assuming they are using them to prevent dings on the cowling from casting accidents from the back deck. Good idea, as I already have several on my motor cowling from friends and family…A trailer with yellow fenders is very easy to pick out from a big crowd at the ramp…Pretty much everyone has some sort of comment to make about a bright yellow boat. The most common is “You really oughta get a yellow boat”…BCB has an excellent rough water ride. Was very appreciative of this during our visit. Pretty much every day we saw big rollers and whitecaps on the main lake. Made getting from place to place an adventure. No running and gunning for us. Took too much work to get to a spot to give up on it easily.Saturday morning was beautiful. Of course we had to leave on Saturday. This was the view from Mustang Creek across the lake at sunrise:
Nice Shot!
Thanks for the info and especially the picture.Britt
I was out there yesterday with the wife. Caught a 7 and then a 8lb. on back to back cast. Then had a R boat come crowd me. I guess they saw me catch those fish. The wind wasnt to bad yesterday but was out there two Mondays ago in some 40 plus wind and made a 5 mile run. (not fun even in a cat). The lake has been very good to me this year and hope yall had some success also.
Hope you enjoyed the lake. I have a yellow boat as well and I hope you were treated well as some of my friends give me a hard time especially on the water, my boat really stands out on the water. Its not uncommon to have some boats crowd me or throw water wakes at me while fishing. If you were mis-taken to be me and was harassed I apologize for my buddies.Fishing has been good this year and at a recent fishing tournament there were 24 bass over the slot weigh in, that was really great. I caught 2 – 7lb. bass over the weekend and we averaged 12 to 15 bass each day and I have heard some 30 to 40 bass catches a day and I believe it as these guys are straight shooters. If you come back up, give me a heads up and we can share a brew or two.
Aaron, funny I saw this post. My brother went down there today…sent me a picture of one of his fish. Started out about 7am. Took lunch break at the Minnow Bucket then headed back out. The morning he had 4-6lbs bass hitting c-rigs. Lost one on spinnerbait.Malibu red/yellow Cougar FTD. Go figure….something about those yellow boats.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
I see a lot of BCBs at Fork and get a lot of comments on Ole Yeller as well. I love it though. Speaking of motor covers. Does Merc or anyone offer a cover that you can run with on a 250 Pro XS? The only smudge Ive put on mine so far was from a tree limb at Fork.
These are nice. TuffSkinz
