So this year is the first year to take my wife to the OI. Been with her 35 years and this is the first interest she has ever shown about fishing. I dont know if it will matter to her or not but I really want her to catch fish. She is the epitome of a beginner novice rookie. I figured a split shot rig with a finesse worm on a spinning rod will likely be the most productive for her. The question is will 8 pound fluorocarbon be light enough for Norfork this time of year or should I go to 6 for her. Im afraid if she does hook into a keeper and tries to horse it she will break off with 6, but I guess that would be better than no bites with 8. Thanks for any advice.

My wife caught lots if fish last year on a rattle trap and a Texas rigged worm with 10-12 pound cear mono. We were just on a two pound 14″ spotted bass pattern and didnt have enough weight to place. That being said we both caught LOTS of fish and were ounces too heavy for a good wild card check. Its not a hard lake to figure out fir numbers, the big sows were another story for my first time on that water. She enjoyed it enough to cone back this year and pre- fish with Doug and I as time allows between her homework. I hope you guys have a great week!!!

jhva, We would go to the dam area in practice and throw a small grub on 6 pound or drop shot on 8 pound test. Use a split shot also on 6 pound and a reaper or grub type bait for smallmouth and kentucky bass. You will have plenty of fun there. Top water early on some of the major points till the sun comes up for fun. You may even be able to catch some white bass in the middle of the lake. The bite is different than any time you folks have been here. Though this is a way to have fun and maybe bump into a position if your lucky. It will probably not win the event. BCB
