HEY GUYS IM NEW TO THIS NOT A OWNER YET BUT SHOULD BE ORDERING MY FIRST CAT THIS COMING OCTOBER. WAS JUST WONDERING WHY BASS CAT DOES NOT OFFER OIL BATH HUBS ON THEIR TRAILERS ? IS THERE SOMETHING I DONT KNOW? DO THEY LEAK AND ARE NOT RELIABLE. ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE GEREATLY APPRECEIATED
You will find that BCB does more thoughtful research and review on options and accessories than any boat company around. Rick will not just slap the latest and greatest on his products, until he is personally satisfied with their operation. I know that they have looked at oil bath hubs in the past, and determined that they did not provide the long-term service that the buddy bearing units do. If you look at BCB wheel/hub assemblies, youll see that they are done in such a way to keep well meaning owners and grease guns away from lubrication ports. Ive never had a bearing issue with a BCB trailer in over 20 years of ownership. Mike Whitten/Germantown, TN
I dont think Mr. Whitten could of stated it any better. I have been running them for 23 years with no complaints, pulling my boat thousands of miles a year.
If you do a search on the boats boards or trailers section of most sites you will see that oil hubs of some companies are not very reliable. The Vault system seems to be adequate, though oil hubs are not in our opinion. The opinion on the oil in those hubs by some manufacturers is to not worry about it turning cloudy. If that is not a concern, then our opinion is you should be able to use milky oil in your crankcase or gearcase. We all know the impact of that, and water in oil on hubs we feel is no different. Once you run a search you will find dozens of issues on oil hubs, and virtually none on grease hubs. We have a full post on grease hubs in the FAQ section. It explains our suggestions on how to service them and do not use a grease gun on the hubs. BCB
A friend of mine purchased a new Triton a year or so ago. He had bearing failure 3rd or 4th tournament. It was covered by warranty but can you imagine the hassle of: 1. A serious issue at 4:00 am in the morning because the hub (trailer) failed on you. 2. A no show 3. Getting the rig home The trailer performs a primitive function, that is get your boat to the lake and home safely without hassle while traveling sometimes at high speeds.
Thanks for all of your replys, it confirms my thinking on the matter and another reason that im making the right decision this coming fall to purchase my new boat from BASSCAT.
No doubt about it!!! you have made the absolute PERFECT decision on an expensive purchase!!!!
