I need help from some of you Merc. guys please. My “95 150 efi has developed an oil leak from the lower unit. It is not the lower unit lube rather the 2 cycle oil. The small tank on the engine is full but the remote tank lost approx.2 quarts. It started leaking in my garage several days after a tx. How can the oil drain from the tank through the motor and out the hub just sitting? When I removed the remote tank cap there was still a lot of pressure. Thanks in advance.
You have a hose leak up there around the engine. Probably dry rotted and cracked and needs to be replaced. There are many small and larger hoses there and they probably all need to be replaced. The oil is running from the top down through the midsection and out the lower unit.
Ill be checking all the hoses shortly. There is no excessive oil in cowl. Is it possible to leak internally? Ill be back out there working on it after lunch.
Check the hoses close, I had one break a few years ago and never got an alarm, and we all know what happens when there is no oil in the gas!!!!!!!!!!! Cost me $1800 to get it fixed. Might be worth it to just change them all
Must be more to it than a leaking hose. Cleaned everything with brake cleaner. Checked all the hoses. Went to fire her up and would not start. Tried to once or twice but that was it. Plugs looked oil fouled. Looks like its off to the Merc tech. When i cleaned all the oil none of it ran through the hub, it all ran out from under the cowl.
The reservoir in the boat should not have preesure on it after shut down. There is a check value in the block that lets pressure off after shut down. If you have pressure oil could bypassing the oil pump rear seal, which will fill the block with oil. Due to the age I would check everything related to the oil system.
