This am when I turned the key (2000 opti 225 on a cougar) the oil light and buzzer came on and stayed on, the engine was still in the trailering position (for about 2 weeks). Pulled the cowl and the oil was within 3/4″ of the top of the reservoir about even with what appears to be an overflow, the boat tank was at 3/4 full. Turned the ignition off lowered the motor turned it back on, all was normal. Trimmed up again and the same thing happened. Put it in the water trimed down started and ran fine the rest of the day. The reason I ask is I never noticed this behavior before and if it is not normal I want to get a handle on the problem before something dumb happens. thanks irv

Its most likely the reservoir under the cowling not being completely full of oil. This definitely will get a sensor light / buzzer if it gets low. Glynn

Easy way to refill the reservoir under the cowling is start the engine and crack the lid on it until it fills. Make sure you pay attention because the motor will pump that oil everywhere if you dont retighten the lid. Good luck but when it doubt dont play with this deal cuz these engines dont run long without oil. Judd Lasiter

If the engine reservoir is low just refilling does not solve the problem. Why did it not refill is the problem. JL was right on refilling crank engine and see if it refills. If not your reservoir are oil/air lines could have a problem. EK
