On board charger and batteries, wet or Maintenence Free?

I have to make a decision on new batteries for my new boat. I have used both kinds in the past and currently have Interstates I bought during the 2006 OI in Mountain Home. I have used Delco maintenance free batteries. I cant say one held up better than the other, but I like not having to stand on my head to put water in batteries or check to see if they need water. I am not interested in $250 high tech batteries. My boat will have a CMR 3 bank charger and I am not sure if it will charge maintenance Free batteries correctly either. The other school of thought is to buy a battery that you can get replaced under warranty where ever you go, like Wal-Mart or Sears. I would like to know what is popular with most Bass Catters now in the way of batteries and chargers? Skipjack

I normally use whatever the dealer puts in it. The last 3 boats have been Interstate and I have been happy with them but keep in mind I dont run it long enough to wear a set out. I check water and take care of them but I dont keep them long enough to wear them out. Having said that if I was buying a new set for a boat I would end up with Everstarts or Stowaways just because they are easy to return to WalMart or Academy. I have used both before either in boats or vehicles with no problems but you do have to check the water. Good luck. Judd Lasiter

Sears has a 31M in a Die Hard that has 1100 CCA and will hold up well. All the batteries could be that series. BCB

Skip Jack had a friend go to get ac-delco battery other day and found out that they are not maintenance free any more-Also I have never had any luck out of everstart or stowaway batteries-over the years sometimes in a bind I have bought Auto-Zone batteries they have done pretty good and they back up there warranty pretty good-By the way down here in La. we call them neverstart-BCB is that Die Hard battery maintenance free.

The advantage w/ going w/ the everstarts is their warranty. Keep the receipt and you can replace them at any walmart, 24 hrs a day ~ usually w/ no questions asked. There is a lot to be said to be able to warranty your battery whenever and usually wherever you are. Buying from a specialty store w/ limited hours may leave you SOL. I think the maintenance free Die Hards are now the Platinum Series. They look like an impressive battery and I think there was a rebate form in the last Bassmasters Magazine for them.

That 31M came directly from Sear our of Schaumberg, IL Headquarters last week. It is a current number and they are not maintenance free, and are an AGM battery. BCB
