I have a minn kota 2 bank charger and had a little problem today. I guess it was more my own fault than anything but I have some questions. I want to know if this has ever happened to anyone else? Normally when I unplug the charger, I loop the end of the cord around something so it wont be flopping around free in the bilge compartment but this morning I forgot apparently. We took off in a touney and ran about 6 miles up the river and the end of the cord fell down on top of the battery and the metal got up against the hot post. When we stopped, smoke was coming out of back end of boat. I started looking for a fire when I found the problem. It melted the insulation on the power cord to the charger and that is where all the smoke was coming from. It didnt hurt the battery or any of the wiring to the boat but I am worried about the charger. Should I try to replace the power cord or just start looking for a new charger? Has this ever happened to any of yall and what did it do to yours? I would love to hear what everyone else does with the power cord to their charger that might keep this from happening to me again. I havent had this happen before and honestly havent thought about it happening. Any replies or ideas is appreiciated. Yall be safe and roll tide!
