Im about to order 3 Optima blue top 31m batteries. I just want to make sure theyre going to work out, Im running a MG TE109 and a 225 Optimax on an 02 jag. 1 hooked to the Merc and the other 2 running the troller, all running through a stealth charging setup. It seems it would save 30 pounds in the back end. Any opposing advice? thanks Mike

I run 4 optimas on mine 3 blue tops for trolling motor te109 and a yellow top for starting battery. and I dont seem to have any problems. But i would be leary of only running 3 batteries because of some of the water i fish and a lot of current. smbass, thats what im afraid of, I ran the group 27 size Optimas a few years ago on a lake trout boat, running downriggers and they didnt last at all. macbass, are you running the 31s? I was looking at the AGM batteries but am trying to cut weight where I can. thanks, Mike

It was recommended to me by a BCB rep at A local show not to run an Optima as your cranking/starting battery,I believe it had to do with voltage levels necessary for the Mercury computer and fuel system, also the Optima requires a different charge rate other than what your Merc alternator puts out.I would speak directly to BassCat or Mercury before I did anything.

yes mike i am running 31 series blue tops but i am also running a yamaha not a mercury..have run that yellow starting battery for 4years and it has never let me down..just replaed all the blue tops this year. they were 7 years old.IF ITS NOT A CAT ITS A DOG BASSCAT BOATS 2001 COUGAR 225 YAMAHA….www.dropshotdennys.com
