Hello everyone. I have a problem with 06 Opti 225 Pro xs, it has a miss when idling. I put new plugs and still the same. I want to know if anyone else has had this same problem, and if so what was the cause and the fix. Thanks for any responses.

That is not a common issue on the 225 Pro XS. They have no real issues ongoing we are aware of.

Change the fuel filter, i replaced my plugs twice before the filter, since putting new filter in works like a champ. If you dont know where it is, mine was on the left side of the engine (looking forward from the back) it will have a red cap on it. It is a 5 minute job to replace.

smbass is right ….you should be able to crank it w/ hose attached and pull the wires one at a time until ….you notice no change in motor idle….we replaced all of them on my buddies 225 there is a good chance the others will go out after you change one….might want to get it to a dealer. or call merc and get the lot # on the coils that were going bad…. Thanks for the replys about yhe coils will try that also I bought the boat and motor used but the motor is still under warranty. Only problem is we got hit by Ike pretty hard and the Basscat dealer moved a hundred miles away. Got to find another mercury dealer i can trust. All the dealers were hit hard, and some are still rebuilding. Again thanks to everyone for the help.

Its more common on the later engines, and Mercury will be issuing a bulletin on this issue soon after they issue one on the 250 pro XS. They are aware of the issue, and are working on it, but at this time havent covered the issue with the dealers. It is a miss at around 1100 rpms and is bothersome, but not terminal. Performance is still good on mine, just sounds bad at high idle ! But its still the best engine on the water ! D.

Why not share?
