Four or five months ago, many of you guys gave me a great deal of advice and assistance regarding a new Bass Cat Puma, as I was considering the purchase of either an 09 Puma FTD or 09 Triton 21X3 after being over one year without a boat. I was being followed for a health issue for a little over one year when it turned into a health scare about five months ago. This health scare forced me to reconsider the wisdom of purchasing a new boat. After much discussion, my wife and I decided that life is much to short to be without a boat, so we are going to order this boat for us both to enjoy. I appreciate any comments or advise on the boat that I plan to order. Here goes: 09 Puma FTD Hull: White Hull Insert: Blueberry Cap: White Cap Insert: Blueberry Trim Stripe: Fire Red Console: Blueberry Boot: Black Carpet: Blue Grey Seat: White Seat Insert: Navy Seat Trim: Flame Engine: 09 Mercury 250 Pro XS Jackplate: Detwiler 8 inch Hydraulic Mercury 26 Fury prop Trolling Motor: Motor-Guide Tour Edition 82 pound thrust (24 volt) Dash Electronics: Humminbird 997 Si Bow Electronics: Humminbird 957 Built in Rod lockers on Port and Starboard Side Flush Mount Controls Blueberry Fiberglass Fenders on Trailer Grab bar and step system on Trailer GatorHyde Paint Protectant on trailer frame Trailer brakes Rocca Trailer wheels Back up lights LED Trailer lights I sure hope I love this boat. Please feel free to make any comments, recommendations, or advice. I have never before owned a Bass Cat boat, though I have owned Ranger and numerous Triton Boats. I am able to see the quality built into the Bass Cat boat line, but the availability of people like Rick Pierce, Ivan, and Mr. Whaley, as well as this board really speaks to what Bass Cat is all about. I will be ordering the boat from Cliff Brown at Texas Boat World. He is truly an outstanding guy and leads a great service oriented dealership. I really do thank you guys for all of your help, and I look forward to becoming a “part of the family.” There is truly a great bunch of guys represented on this board. Corky Darnell
I think you will be very happy with your boat. I also owned another brand before purchansing a Bass Cat. I couldnt ask for a better boat or company to support the boat. Congrats on the new ride.
Sounds like an awesome total package. Cant wait to see how it turns out. Please be sure and post pics when you get her. I will post pictures when the boat comes in. I have been reading this board for a long time and it has become my favorite board, even over others like WMI and BassBoatCentral. I thank you both for your kind words. Corky
Congratulations. Im glad you finally came to a decision. I too hope your health concerns are history!
Hey Phil: You have absolutely been a great deal of assistance in providing information about Bass Cat Boats, and you serve as a darned good ambassador for Bass Cat. I started to say something to you and Mr. Whaley about the health scare at the Houston Boat Show, but I just did not feel comfortable at the time. Anyway, I really do thank you for all of your help. Due to your influence, I am even going to put a Detwiler on the boat. I will probably want to talk to you about the exacto-gauge and get a recommendation from you. Thanks again, Corky
yes you will love it!!!! my 07 Puma was the best boat decision I could ever make!!!! almost went with a T boat , but Pete said “That dont make no sense!”
Sounds like its going to be fine ride!!!!!!! You want be disappointed with the boat or the people. I would change one thing i would upgrade to the 109 tour 36volt motorguide. But thats just me i fish in a lot of current down here. i had a 36v tm on my 18 and 19 foot boats. Congrats
Sounds like an awesome rig. I fished the last two weekends on Rayburn in 25 to 30 mph winds and the Tour 82 held up great and had plenty of juice left over. I like the idea of less weight in the boat with the 24 volt system…but, thats just me. If you dont fish with more than 2 in the boat, look into the carpeted step console with the neat lift storage area. The dual rod organizers are great too. Saw several boats with broken MinnKotas due to the rough waters the past two weeks (broken brackets, mounts, shafts, etc.), my Motorguide is still purring like new. Sure couldve used the Detwiler the last two weeks as well…thats my only regret on my boat…no Detwiler. Check that, wish I had a camera on the trailer to moniter the idiot that clipped my trailer fender in the parking lot and didnt leave his number!!! Good luck with the new rig, it will be the BEST overall performing boat on the water bar none. You will NOT regret the Puma over any other boat you are considering…it is unbelievable in rough water and fast as heck when the winds lay down.
I have the Hambys protector on mine and really like it.
