Thinking of going first week of June for couple days fun fishing with my son. Never been on lake so looking for any helpful info: places to stay, general areas patterns for this time of year and navigation hazards to watch for when running the lake. Thanks
Someone will be along from Quachita, though we dont know of any issues there. Fishing has been good too!
Just talked to a freind of mine today that was there sunday and he said ti was tough fishing depending on what your looking for he said the bass were deep and hitting on mostly jigs . He told me he really had to use the side scanning to find any
This ramp is ok and so is the one at Mt Harbor Resort.BE CAREFULL!!! Lake is very low and a lot of places to “reach out and touch your boat”Ron
Well i guess i qualify since i live 10 min from Lake Ouachita. I havent been in about a week but its been great fishing. This last cold front prob. has them lock jawed right now but warmer temps later in the week should improve the bite. Water is mid 50s and yes the lake is low about as low as i have ever seen it. The Demby Point ramp is the best if you ask me. Mountain Harbor is still good to use but its flatter but its ok to use. Crystal is useable but only part of the ramp. I havent been down to Brady Mtn or around the ramps on the east end of the lake. What part of the lake do you plan to fish balata9999 ???
Im going to be coming from hot springs as Im going up there to stay with some inlaws so looking at launching on the south side preferably in the southwest arm of the lake. Ive never fished there but someone told me thats a good arm to focus on for a first timer as there are lots of places to fish that direction. Ill be fishing for either bass or stripers whatever I can get on. Any help would be appreciated for a first timer. Ill be able to fish from about the 26th to the 2nd or 3rd if anyone wants to go and show me some spots. Im hauling my cougar from west texas that we can fish out of.Last edited by balata9999 on December 7th, 2010, 12:10 am, edited 1 time in total.
Demby Point is in the SW arm. Thats the South Fork part of the lake. Thats where i would put in if it was me. Demby Point ramp and the resorts name is Lake Ouachita Shores. If your coming from Hot Springs you will go across the Demby bridge and turn on the next right just follow that street and stay right the ramp is only about 3/4 mile off hwy 270.
+1, and youd never need to fire up the big engine to catch fish !
Crystal Springs Resort and Mountain Harbor Resort are probably two most popular places and are on the lake. Most of the accommodations “on the lake” are older motel or fishing resorts built years ago. The two mentioned are staying up to date for the most part. As summer starts up there will be more boaters and PWC out on the lake but early mornings and late afternoons are still good. A good Navionics chip and depthfinder will keep you out of trouble for the most part, though when you see a “shallow area” buoy, it could be a flat, ridge or hump just under the surface. Lots of islands , one of the cleanest lakes in the US. We used to look for quartz crystals on some of the islands growing up in the 60s/70s. There are a couple of motels in nearby Mount Ida and then of course Hot Springs is close by for things to do as well.Welcome to Lake Ouachita.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

Right now its a bit tough. We have spoken to some of the local flavor lately and there are some schoolers early with the better action later on Yum Dingers and Senkos. If Yu havent been to Ouachita then the number of islands and humps may boggle you some. Very nice reservoir.
Now thru the third week or so of June is topwater time, period ! Always has been,,,,,, Also can usually catch a few on scaliwags, grubs, etc,,,, on long points. Put the boat in 40 and throw at the points and grass edges.
