While running this weekend on Tbend……..at wot, the engine overspeed alarm went off on the smartcraft gauge. Prior to that Im running 71 mph at 5900, now Im hitting an alarm at the same rpm but running 10 mph less. What Im thinking it might be is that I had a prop blade crack last month then had the prop fixed at Mike Hoods in Houston……allegedly back to 25 trophy plus specs. I ran the prop once at Coleto Creek prior to Tbend and all seemed fine with it on rpm and speed. Any other reasons I could be running wot rpms without the speed I know is there somewhere? Weights, etc. are all the same. All thats possibly changed is the prop. I have another 25 trophy plus that Ill run this weekend to see for sure but wanted to check if anything else could be up…….

We never like a rebuilt propeller overall. We really like stock as we know what we have. The propeller repair at Hoods probably also out thought you and your boat, trying to thin it and give you some RPMs to gain performance. We often see a repaired wheel go south. Seldom are they back within specs. They can rebend that propeller as long as they have not over thinned it. We would have them cup it slightly, repitch it to another half inch of pitch and see how much it was thinned. BCB

We try to not comment on individuals over an internet site where they can not defend themselves. Thus we struck part of Phils post, though we think he has a nice catch there that we should have already mentioned. Be sure to check your hub as you have a plastic insert hub that can get hot and become molten. Not likely, though has happened before several times.

I saw Phils comment before edited…..understood and thanks. I figured as much but kinda went off what I was told as Ive not had to have one repaired before. Ive also got a brand new 25 p trophy plus from Bowdens so Ill run that this weekend and probably get back up to where I need to be and have the other as a spare. I checked the hub after practice and all was good…..did scare me there as it had been off and on 4 times.

We pull the propellers dozens of times on the same hub, so that is not a concern. We probably have removed and retighten one hub over a hundred times or more on occasion.
