Well during the off season I decided to install an oxygenation system on my PII. I know this thread is worthless without pics !!!! I will take some this evening and post. I went with a dual diffuser micro-pore design(one on each side of the live well divider), adjustable style regulator in lieu of a fixed Lpm regulator and a M-9 bottle. My dilemma is where and how to mount the bottle. My first obvious choice was in the bilge area to the rear seat post but pure oxygen in a fuel/oil vapor laden environment, with charging batteries and the potential for sparks is not a viable choice. I opted for the starboard side rod box. Now that I have a location how in the hell do I restrain the bottle ????? I purchased two Bass Cat Velcro rod straps to do the job but I cannot come up with a comfortable way to secure them in the rod locker for fear of a fastener becoming exposed on the exterior. It also doesnt help that I have my LSS-1 mounted in this same rod locker on the stern end(driver console wall). Any ideas and pics would be greatly appreciated. http://www.slideshare.net/raminlandfish … on-8773301
Texas looked at it nicely. I think if youre fortunate enough to catch a number of the 5+ class of Floridas its worth your while. Otherwise its something else to break. I would just copy whats in the slides from the post you attached. A box and a rubber strap over it will hold it fine. Personally I gotta believe that temp control of the livewell would be more effective than hyper oxygenation. Although the oxygen should drop it some.Last edited by clownshoes on December 27th, 2013, 3:33 pm, edited 2 times in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
I can see where that might be of some help in rare instances, but I do believe the BCB livewells with the Pro Air system are plenty good enough to keep fish alive and healthy. I dont fish many tournaments at all, but when I have, even in hot weather, my fish have been just as lively at the end of the day as they were when I caught them.
Wouldnt it be easier to just use this type of oxygenator? http://keepfishalive.com/pro-livewell-flush-mount.phpFLW uses the portable versions of these in weigh in lines.
BCB FLW Pro Adrian Avena uses a oxygen bottle and diffuser. He is on facebook daily and you could message him and Im sure hed share on how he has his set up.
I will FB him and see if he can share some thoughts. I will also post some pics of my install tonight. I fish main Sam Rayburn and in the summer the dissolved oxygen levels go way down.Thanks.
I agree! IMO it is overkill!Danbillius wrote:I can see where that might be of some help in rare instances, but I do believe the BCB livewells with the Pro Air system are plenty good enough to keep fish alive and healthy. Simple and easy to install. Personally I have never thought that the BCB livewell needed anything other than what is standard so I also think that this is “overkill” and not necessary. Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
Pure oxygen works. I used one for several years back in the late 90s when I could catch a few. However, back then there was an abundance of tournaments during the summer and the livewells in those boats werent near as good as what BCB has today. This past summer I fished out of a boat that was equipped with a pure oxygen system and it worked great, but we also used ice in conjunction to cool the water. Pure oxygen will not going to keep a fish hooked in the tongue or deep in the gullet alive. Fish in the summer just arent as healthy as they are any time other than the summer. TPWD has likely done their homework, but it is my opinion that unless you plan on catching a 20lb sack with water temps above 90, then its useless. The Oxygenator…………….the only thing that Ive ever heard about an Oxygenator is that if you use Rejuvenade with the Oxygenator that you might as well not even use water. Instant death! I dont think the Oxygenator provides any more than what BCB already uses.Downside to Pure Oxygentakes up valuable space in the boatpure oxygen handling is dangerouspain in the ass to have bottle refilledrenders all your other livewell features pretty much uselessnot needed with water temps less than 90Downside to the OxygenatorDoes it really work? If so, then why hasnt BCB incorporated into their top of the line models? If it worked I would be more inclined paying extra for the option over an optional radio, seat speakers, or some of the other features one can add to a BCB. I would go the extra mile and say that RP has tested!
Ive fished 90+ surface temps and using the recirculators, not the aerators as they take in hot water from behind the boat, and my five have usually been almost too lively to weigh. Ive never had to use ice either.- Chaz
