P III/200 Opti/manual jack plate installation height

I am getting ready to pull the motor (200 Optimax) off the manual jack plate and drop it to its lowest mounting position. I am also going to have to adjust the plate down to get the prop shaft approx. 3-1/2 inches below the pad, which I think is the desired start point for this combination.One of my concerns is tilt clearance at the splash well. I have just paid to have that surface refinished due to carelessness by the previous owner with a different motor. I will also be unable to trim the motor to vertical on the trailer because the skeg will be well below the ground surface. Is there something wrong with the geometry at the back of the boat that I have these issues?If you have any pictures of P III/200 Optimax/manual plate installations they sure would be appreciated.All insights welcome.Thanks.

Hello. I have a 1999 P – 3 with the 6 inch manual jack plate. 99 200 Optimax. It came with hydraulic steering when i bought it. If i removed the jack plate everything would hit. The P – 3 is really stern heavy and needs the leverage to get the nose up on take off. I had to lower the plate when i switched to a 25 pitch Trophy as it came with a custom 25 pitch tempest with thin blades. It was raised up too high and the prop would blow out if the nose came down to fast. It would hit 72 and chine walk like hell so i switched. I think i settled in on 2.75 inches below pad and it runs up tp 67-68 with a light load all day and you can drive it with your fingers. I have a flipping deck and i have my old 12 volt trolling motor battery underneath for my night fishing lights and the extra 60 pounds right there helps with take off. I just removed the 6″ plate from my 01 P3 and put on a new 8″ as the old 6″ was frozen (to many days in brackish water) and would not adjust, and it was a crane time thing that I decided to swap instead of repair. What mounting holes on the motor are used on your boat, mine was mounted in the second hole from the top on the motor bracket and with the 6″ it would not hit the splashwell area unless you were really not paying attention. Mine is also in the owners gallery and the second pic gives a decent angled shot of the plate area. Thanks for the responses. I have been in direct contact with another P III owner and he has sent some pics that are very clear but that I cannot relate to my boat.I am going to the gallery pages referred to above to see what I can see.Again, thank you for your responses as I try to resolve this issue.MIchaelAfter seeing all of the pics posted in the owners galleries I have looked at my boat, again.My setup looked so similar to those I just saw that I did my measuring again and, blame it on old man eyes, but I think I am actually at 3-3/8 which is a fine starting place.Not sure what I had measured before.Water pressure and handling will tell the tale…once the weather lets me get her to the water.Thanks for all your insights. I have been so busy at work I have not been able to get any pics of mine. I am going to try to see about going run the boat, and adjust my plate height tomorrow if work doesnt get in the way again.
