Thought I had seen afew posts regarding suggested Prop setups for some of the Basscat line…anyone think it would be nice to have a page just for this? Like …Suggested setup for :Basscat Pantera 3 with Merc 200 EFITrophy plus, with large pvs plugs every other hole(total of 2)Engine height….ect..Meantime,was it suggested by Basscat that the Fury prop was the way to go nowadays with the Pantera line and 200hp?Mike Richard CFBC FOUNDER
Ive been hoping this didnt come up, because after 15 years of 2 jobs, I was happy to get out of my part time job doing application development for the City of Dallas.But….. Heres a few basic screen shots of idle time coding. If this is something that you all may be interested in, please let me know. BCB, I would love it if you chimed in on the value of something like this.First, we all would enter data, as specifically as possible, including temps, boat loads, prop plugs, etc. After this, you could pull up your boatAnd then get details of what everybodys using, and details of their submissionsIve not put a lot of time in this, and it would take a while to get all the variables in, as there are many of them, but let me know what you think. If its not something of value, then Id rather just watch TIVOed Gilmer Girls.Allen
especially for us armchair boaters
That is a pretty cool App Fire!
There didnt seem to be much interest in this, so I broke down and started a new “paying” job. It just seemed like there were an awful lot of prop questions on the board. This was in no way going to be a recommended list, just what others are using, and the performance specs of their setups. It was just going to be a freebie, so I may come back to it at some point. Thanks, Al
In my opinion theres no way the data could be 100% and might even lead to further confusion. There are so many variances that go into performance that you wouldnt be able to capture all. Altitude, humidity, jack plate settings, load of passengers, load of tackle, livewells full / empty, differences in engines same hp, differences in hull weights. And the list goes on. Then you have some who would skew the data due their inability to drive to max performance, though wanting to participate on the thread. Bass Cat will 100% of the time put the right prop on the boat for best all around performance unless you the customer specifiy otherwise. Great idea, but wouldnt be 100% in my opinion!
Phil, I completely agree with you. I did have all the variables you mentioned built into the app, plus WOT rpms, take off, prop plugs, etc. but as you said, each boat is different. It was just to be a starting point for the guys that like to play with their boats. The multitude of variables is what made me hesitant to throw it out there to begin with. And, it was only the volume of prop questions that started the wheels turning. Its ironic, because I am happy with a strong take off and good mid range rpm handling. Ive got that, so Im not inclined to piddle with my Cat. The motor/prop factory settings Ive got now are perfect for me.Plus, boredom + 110 heat index here in Texas = idle coding. Thanks, Al
We tend to think that it would lead to a very tight preference on propellers and as new propellers are selected, it would alter potential choices. In other words, two years ago the Fury was new, though the Trophy would appear as the choice. Realizing this would be disseminated by the year models after the first year, though only because we would push consumer that direction as dealers and manufacturers. There is no 100%, and we can not hit 100%, though we try hard. We agree with Phil on the data being skewed by averaging on those set ups that would enter into the equation and not be accurate. The data would also not take into consideration of operator ability, and lord knows we see plenty of variance here on that topic. Less than other brands due to the more intense angler BCB caters to, though still some. We had a chart in a form similar to this with heights and props in the Tech Manual years ago, and it got dated. Plus the combinations changed and became more of a hindrance than a help. BCB
Also though it is a nice touch there FireIsHot! Forgot to say that and we will see that others are aware of it.
I dont know guys, it looks like it could be fun and of some value, got to be better than the formulas that prop manufactures use that only show in house props and are not detailed to particular hulls.I would vote positive and it would be a fluid changing data base as time goes by unlike the old listing.Irv
